15 Free WordPress Plugins to Add Christmas Cheer to Your Site

The Christmas countdown has begun, and while stores are playing Jingle Bells and homes are decorated with colorful lights and the sweet smell of pine trees, there’s no reason why you can’t deck your WordPress site with boughs of holly.

To help you get into the Christmas spirit, I’ve put together a fun list of free Christmas plugins, themes and tips – all tried and tested.

Simply Snow


This aptly named plugin adds a simple snowfall effect to your site. Just install and activate the plugin and watch the gentle snow fall down your site. Unlike some other snow plugins, this one doesn’t come with any kind of configuration options and is lightweight enough that it won’t affect your site’s speed.

Xmas Snow


This plugin also adds snow to your site, but in the shape of snowflakes. It’s also quick and easy to get up and running on your site and doesn’t require any configuration.

Improved Let It Snow!


Here’s a snow plugin you can configure. You can specify the color and shape of the snow as well as its speed and how much snow fills the screen. You can also configure whether the snow “sticks” and accumulates at the bottom of the screen.

Advent Calendar


Add a simple advent calendar to your site. For the 24 days before Christmas from December 1, this plugin allows you to release a new custom holiday-themed image. A handy plugin for publishing exclusive content.

Christmas Countdown Clock


Add a simple countdown clock to your site using a widget. Choose from seven designs, as well as various sizes and background colors.

Christmas Countdown Widget


Let Santa brighten your visitors’ day with this simple widget. Just add the countdown widget to your site and Santa’s beard will countdown the days until Christmas. The plugin’s developers has recently added shortcode so you can display the counter anywhere on your site.

If you want to add something small to your site without going over the top, this plugin will allow you to add a small Christmas branch with a decorative bauble and lights to the top right-hand corner of your site.
