Create a Portfolio Site on a Budget: Free HTML5 Portfolio Press Theme for WordPress

Hello starving artists and craftsmen! This one is for you. Every visual artist needs an online portfolio, as the internet makes the whole world your audience and your marketplace. Maybe you know this but you don’t have the budget to hire someone to build a portfolio site for you. Today we’re going to take a look at a free HTML5 theme for WordPress that will allow you to start showcasing your work online quickly.

Introducing Portfolio Press:

Portfolio Press is a creative project from the folks at WP Theming. This theme is free and available in the WordPress Theme Directory. It’s perfect for showcasing photography, art, web sites, products for sale, recipes or other projects. You can also use it as a regular blog.

What I love about this theme is that it instantly puts the spotlight on your work. It’s also very easy to use and comes with an options panel for uploading logos and and changing the layout.

The theme demos on wordpress.org often do beautiful themes a disservice in that they don’t include much content with all of the options turned on. Visit the demo set up by WPTheming.

Portfolio Press users custom post types for portfolio pages.

The theme author’s introductory video walks you through the entire process from installing this theme to setting up menus and adding portfolio items. If you already have a WordPress site then there’s no reason you can’t get this theme set up in a matter of minutes, even if you consider yourself to be non-technical.

Examples of Sites Using the Portfolio Press Theme:

Here’s a real world example of this theme being used to display panama hats for sale:

Below is an example of the Portfolio Press theme in action to showcase Golden Retrievers available for adoption:

This is a very flexible theme that could be used for any kind of showcase site. Use it to get your portfolio online quickly on a budget. Download it for free from the WordPress theme directory or grab it directly through your WordPress dashboard.

  1. Yesterday I started this tutorial and installed the Portfolio Press theme. Today when I came back and logged in to work on it, I noticed an Alert on all of my site pages. Both the WP dashboard and live pages. The Alert said “Please stop hotlinking my easing script — use a real CDN instead. Many thanks.” It seems that somewhere the link to the easing jQuery file links to github.com/gdsmith/jquery.jquery and Mr Smith does not like that. But I am not sure where to change that link. Can you tell me? In the header.php?
Is this new? I don’t see any other comments about this.
    Thanks
