Add More Automatic Image Sizes to the WordPress Media Library

Do you ever feel limited when adding an image to a post or page with only thumbnail, medium, large and full sizes to choose from? These are handy if they work for your theme, but sometimes the height or width can be awkward. Install the Additional image sizes (zui) plugin and you’ll be given a new menu item under Media >> Images Sizes where you can create custom image sizes that will be added to the default sizes.

Now you can resize to your custom sizes with ease! This plugin is a fork the original Additional Image Sizes plugin. Additional image sizes (zui) enhances it, fixes a few bugs, and is available for free in the WordPress plugin repository.

  1. Sarah thank you for mentioning the updated plugin. I did the fork and rewrite of Additional Image Sizes.

@Tom One of the feature additions in the new version was the ability to resize the predefined WordPress sizes ‘thumbnail’, ‘medium’, and ‘large’. I do a lot of custom client themes and many of the designs require more than one thumbnail size for various slideshows and other “featured” lists etc… So for me the additional sizes were vital even if there are extra copies being created. However, I agree if you don’t need to create extra sizes you shouldn’t so it was even more vital to be able to resize the predefined sizes if those get changed instead of letting the browser resize those from the larger image (for previously uploaded images).

Also in the hours after you posted this article Sarah I released a newer version (0.1.5) that also added the ability to delete images for deleted sizes.

Thank you again for the mention.
