Salutation: A New HTML5 WordPress and BuddyPress Theme

Salutation caught my attention this weekend. It’s a new HTML5 BuddyPress theme available from Themeforest. The BuddyPress theme market is still very small, and we’re always getting questions on Twitter about where to find themes. This one looks like a decent option.

Salutation uses HTML5 and CSS3, which allows you to make use of all the latest technologies. It also comes with a drag-and-drop layout manager for creating custom layouts for any page or post. You can attach custom headers and footers to your layouts.

Other features include unlimited sidebars, a popup login form, layered PSD files for customization, and full localization (.po/.mo files). The theme options panel is completely unbranded and ready for you to white label. You can also set permissions to restrict client access to theme options.

Check out a live demo to see the theme in action.

Themeforest doesn’t have many BuddyPress themes available yet, but this one looks promising. Give Salutation a try and let us know what you think!

  1. This looks like it could save me a lot of time and headache – I’ve been putting off redesigning the buddypress site I manage while I see how the next buddypress upgrade goes, but this would give me something really nice to work with now.

I would hope they have a good track record of upgrading their themes with new editions of WordPress/Buddypress, since that’s an issue I’ve run into when I tried to use customized Buddypress themes in the past.

  2. I’ve only made two purchases at ThemeForest and both of them have been, well let’s just say, less then a positive experience. I’m used to working with Studiopress and Genesis so when I install a template, I expect it to work out of the box, at least in a basic manner. This has not happened for me in either purchase with Themeforest. They will not get another dime of my money.

  3. Well, I took the plunge and bought the theme… it will certainly not save time and headaches I’m afraid, it is very involved and complicated, it took me the best part of a day just to find out just what I am doing, and I’m no beginner…
I still think however, that at the end of the day, its going to be worth it… an awesome theme, if you can get it sorted out :-)

    • Dave,

I’m sorry you didn’t find the theme easier to use. It sets up out of the box with the full demo content, however I admit it has a different approach to building a WordPress site than what you normally find. That difference is what gives our themes their power to create virtually any layout combination and easily override a header, footer or page layout at multiple levels. I hope that as you continue to you the theme you find this to be true and it becomes an asset you eventually can’t live without. That has been the feedback we have received from so many of our customers after just a couple days of using the product.

If you have questions or ever need support we’re always available. We really value customer feedback so keep us updated.

      • Andy, sorry if that sounded too negative, I really like the theme and will stick with it. The point I was trying to make due to prior comments, was that it does not work out of the box and you need to put some time into it.

  4. I’ve purchased Salutation because it’s so beautifully designed and so powerful in the backend. The BuddyPress integration is the best I’ve seen. It does take a little bit of getting used to the design options in the backend (although it doesn’t take a day…) but that’s because it’s so powerful. It has a drag and drop page template which seems really good to me.

I’ve had a couple of support questions and the support from Parallelus has been great.

I don’t know Parallelus and I have no connection with ThemeForest. Just want to give credit where credit is due. Imagine how much it would cost to have someone design a theme like this for you with BP support. Then look at the ThemeForest price and ask yourself whether it’s a steal.

  5. I love the theme, but does it play nice with WP Marketpress? I seem to be running into an issue. When I create and view a product category on the site, It seems to put the product listing of that category in in the breadcrumbs section of the site.

  6. As owner of a Web business, I often keep a look out for new themes for myself and clients.

This one looked good and to nice to pass up. I review many themes before making a purchase.

I made a purchase and couldnt be happier. It does take a bit of doing, but the features and power it has is amazing. I especially like the look, layout options, things you can do with it, plugins which do not conflict and Buddypress…which will be awesome.

A wonderful theme and one not to dissapoint.

I have used a few other themes from this developer, and he knows what he is doing. Awesome very happy with Salutation. Used for a Professional Photography Site.

  7. I am pretty new to wordpress, and feel as though I am good at the “basics” but not much beyond that (html/html5, css, etc.).
I REALLY enjoy this theme, but don’t know if it’s right for me…
Can anyone give me their opinion?

  8. Andy/Themeforest:

Love the Salutation theme for my unique business model. Because I am not a web developer, I am going to need some support hand holding and looking for “one” of these theme companies to offer exceptional support. I have found other themes I really liked but did not purchase ONLY because I did not feel I would get the needed company support. I think its amazing the Theme industry gets away with such limited and terrible overall customer support. I am in hope, Themeforest is the exception???
