Embed Tweets, YouTube Videos, and More into Text Widgets with a URL

In a WordPress post, you can simply place the URL from a YouTube video or tweet into your editor, and the video or tweet will automatically be embedded.

You can also do this with media from a number of other sites such as Flickr and Vimeo and Slideshare. (See the entire list here.)

Trying to do that in a text widget, however, doesn’t work.

But there’s a way around that.

How to Wrap Text Around a Video in WordPress

Many people have run into the problem of trying to wrap text around an embedded video in WordPress. This is what they’re hoping for.

The Problem
Instead, they find that no matter what they do, they can’t seem to get the text to wrap around the video.

After inserting the video embed code, it would appear that you can wrap text around the video in the editor as you would an image. However, upon saving the post, the wrapped text suddenly unwraps.

The Solution

By pasting the video’s embed code in your Post or Page

We’ll go over both below.
1. Pasting a Link
Perhaps the easiest way to add a YouTube video to WordPress is by simply pasting in a link for the video on its own line in the editor.

Auto-Embed Settings

Before you try pasting your YouTube link into your site, you will want to make sure that you have your media settings properly set up.

Video Backgrounds for WordPress

You don’t know how cool this is because you’ve never seen it before. Once you try it, you’ll have some fun with it and maybe even incorporate it into your current or next website. However, it’s probably not for everyone because of the bandwidth required to serve a video background; it’s loading a YouTube video and your website all at the same time.
It sure is eye-catching!
The mb.YTPlayer for background videos is an excellent, free plugin that lets you source any YouTube video as your page’s full-screen background (FYI: a paid plugin is described at the end of this post).
