I'm not sure what theme would suit you best. we have plenty to choose from, there are more over at themeforest.com too.

as far as your homepage, you could actually add a custom home.php template to the theme, then in the home.php you could create the sections & layout, use different loops to fetch specific post-type info. etc add sidebars & widget areas.

then in your dashboard, create a page called 'homepage', then select your new home.php template in the right hand side where you create the page.

once done, you then change your homepage to a static page and point it to the home page you created, you set that in dashboard > settings > general.

I know about BP Daily, I've used it, I don't really like the navigation menu, other things.

I don't know if I am looking for a theme, or a plugin. Just some way so that news is displayed on home page (not as one long blog feed, but laid out by sections with alternating 2, 3 column to make it look more like a newspaper) as well as posts,likes,reviews or other BP sorts of activity.

I have install the Social Theme from here, but I am confused. Do I need to install Bbpress, ? I have install the Social theme and the Buddypress plugin?

do you see the plugin listed in your network dashboard plugins page?

also are you using buddypress network activated or activated on a site-by-site basis?

does this happen using the default theme? or a different buddypress compatible theme?

Thank you for your input and true I am not a fan of Buddy Press but only for the reasons mentioned and prefer to use "other plugins" to get similar if not exact effect.

However, I was hoping that someone in the community would have chipped in by now ;-)

With that said I will see if I can get one of the other staff members to help out here.
