Thanks for your reply! I have just tried turning off show templates selection on registration, but this also removes it from the Create a site page, so it kind of removes blog templates completely I think?

thanks for posting.

you should be able to hide the pro-sites option by unticking the show options on sign up box in settings. (screenshot 1)

also in the new blog templates settings, scroll down to options. there you can also untick the box to hide them from the registration page. (screenshot 2)

hope this helps

thanks.

Not sure if this is possible without hacking. We have a main site with BuddyPress social features, and people can also register their own sites (multisite & Pro Sites & New Blog Templates).

At the moment the site Register link always has user registration plus site creation including all the New Blog Templates. It's too easy to enter some details incorrectly. Also puts people off as it's more complicated than necessary for users to register just for the BuddyPress site.

Is there a non-hacking way to have Register as only user registration, then the user can use the Create a site button to create a site when already logged in?

@warpedmind

The idea behind this kind of setup is for those that wish to have wordpress separate from their main site install, So hitting xyz.com would take you to your main site hitting xyz.com/wphere/index.php would take you to your wordpress install.

However one thing you should be aware of domain mapping would not work in the scenario you propose.

If I do this though and I create the wp site in a subdir, then what about root? For example, if I installed wp in xyz.com/wphere/, would wp still work for xyz.com/index.php? Or would my home be here: xyz.com/wphere/index.php?

I'm sorry Jack. I was in the process of moving my question to the Multisite area when I got pulled into a conference call. Here is the question that I was going to move. You may want to move it before answering:

I may be bad at searching, but I can't find an answer to this question. In Multisite, is it possible to create one post and push it out to all sites in the network? Or do you need a plugin to do that, or is it just impossible? I've never used multisite before. I think it may be the only way to do what I need. The background is: I'm trying to set up about 20 related sites. One master site, and a bunch of sites that are clones of the master, with different logos and slightly different content, yet most content will be the same. I've tried services like ManageWP, but they don't let you push one post out to multiple destinations -- they all seem to be just for system management. I've also searched the Community forums here, but can't find a thread. If this has already been discussed, feel free to point me to that discussion. thank you so much in advance.

Greetings Casey,

You should renew the domain at Yahoo and then effect the transfer a month or so down the road so you folks do not miss it for the next round.

That will extend it yet another year but it will then be out of the way and still secure with you folks owning it.

If it is allowed to expire for a couple of weeks it goes into "redemption" in which it is then like $80 to renew - then a short time after that it will usually be available for purchase again if one of the domain name scalpers does not get it first.

And I hate when that happens.

Cheers, Joe

Tom Eagles

I am Casey, Mark is away for the time being. I am sorry but i thought the general threads would allowed for such topics. It not like i asked how to change my oil lol :) << just a joke Tom don't be angry, this forum stuff is Mark's thing. I am an accountant so i am out of my element here, and just trying to help out. Give me numbers and i rock; world wide web ehh not so much. :) I had to be told what to ask.

Amy asked me to check on this while she went to visit mark, and i do not know the difference between our host company or support company because all the emails have WPMU in them. (Looks the same to me) I just copy and paste web addresses the usernames and passwords. I don't like it and do not plan on doing it again. So :P lol

Moving on,
Amy is concerned because she transferred a domain for a client once from intuit to HG, and once the domain transfer number was entered it did not transfer, then intuit said they could not offer support because the client was no longer a client of theirs. (intuit)

Finally HG did the transfer manually. 3 weeks later.

The domain is due to renew on 03.25.2013 and if it takes three weeks like it did with our client then we have a huge issue.
1. Could the domain be bought by another?
2. Would the site be accessible if the transfer is delayed?

Those are the questions.

Just figured we could get some information here. Didn't mean any harm. I will suggest to Amy that only one of us do all the WPMU stuff that way you don't have to teach all of us proper etiquette. :)

Joe / aecnu mentioned the following,
>>>>However, there must be enough time remaining to effect the transfer and the originating registrar may put you through a small song and dance to get the job done.<<<<

how much time is enough time? Is there enough time to try it now, or should we renew with yahoo then transfer it later?

ty, Sorry for the confusion.

Greetings And.Hello,

Thank you for letting us know your intentions and what you want to do.

You can transfer registrars and when you pay to transfer it also extends the domain for one year.

There should be absolutely no downtime since for the most part it is just an administrative action.

However, there must be enough time remaining to effect the transfer and the originating registrar may put you through a small song and dance to get the job done.

Thank you again for thinking of us.

In short, if you're not currently running a WordPress Multisite, don't worry about that. It's just talking about if you were using legacy code and how to update to the new version.

All you really need to worry about is that first batch of instal instructions.

Ok, this is what I found in there:
NOTE: If you are currently running WordPress MU, you do not need to complete these steps. your network is already enabled. Once you upgrade to the 3.x branch, you will be prompted to update your .htaccess rules for MultiSite. As of the release of WordPress 3.1, you will need to upgrade WPMU manually. You can no longer use the auto-upgrade tool to move from WPMU to Multisite.

Then it says this at the next link...
ATTENTION! WordPress MU is no longer under active development as a separate product. Its features were rolled into core and released with WordPress 3.0. You can simply proceed by Installing WordPress and Create A Network instead. It functions generally the same.

I'm confused. I guess I don't need it quite yet anyway, just wanted to start planning ahead.

WordPress Multisite is something that is built into WordPress and is independent of WPMU DEV.

You can find out more about it here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

It'll also tell you how to setup a Multisite Network.

I keep coming across some great themes that require Multisite. I did a search in the Themes and plugins and did not find anything. Is it part of the WPMU DEV offerings as a annual subscriber?
