Yes the child needs to be removed too and any changes you've done in your child theme merged into the new child theme. There is auto update for the entire theme not the child too as not all use the child.

We did announce this on the forum in the form of a sticky post but I understand how sometimes updates can get missed.

Hi sorry this got missed let me try and get onto this for you. Ideally we like users to start a new post for their issue as it may not be the same as this users, unfortunately that's why this particular one got missed. Lets get onto that though.

Really the only way to see what is up for your particular installation is going to be to have a look at what happens with all plugins off. It's in almost all cases going to be some plugin clashing with the javascript. Another method would be to check you're updated to the latest and version for the version of BuddyPress and WordPress you are using for all plugins.

I have deactivated the plugins that I have running but this didn't fix it. Removing the plugins and re-installing wipes out a ton of work. Is there a more efficient solution?

Hiya CIXdesigns,

Just in response to your question above on best way to update themes without losing custom styling - we recommend using child themes. We make a child theme available with every theme we offer here for exactly this purpose. Learn more about them here:

I am currently using WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.2.9. I just recently updated both.

The problem - the dropdown menu for any subpages is currently not working at all. There simply is no dropdown. It previously worked. I only noticed this malfunction today and can not say for sure what I did to make this happen. I know I updated WP, but BP was updated after I noticed the problem.

Any help or thoughts is greatly appreciated.

Use the child theme please there is no base.css or custom.css in the theme you are using.

Just put it in child.css and then in your child theme uncomment that line:

/* Uncomment the following line and add your custom child styles to '_inc/css/child.css' */
/*@import url( _inc/css/child.css );*/

As for older files... sorry not sure what that means please use the LATEST version of the theme and then apply any changes to CSS in the child theme. Apologies I think the too many voices hit this thread and became confusing for you - got lost myself :) Let me hopefully get you on the right track with these steps:

1. Upload latest theme: Version: 1.9.9.1
2. Add widget, add RSS
3. See if have any styling issues IF DO then add into child.css and follow my above steps.

If any further issues then please provide a link to your site with those 3 steps in place and I will take a look.

I'm not convinced that it's not a plugin to be frank 'freezing' things. In testing it's only ever been a plugin cuasing issues. Please try removing all plugins then clear your cache and test. If we can try and keep to that post though not add to this one it would be good. I'm sure you have a post about that just update or create a new one if you do not.

I would also go against David's recommendation to use the older theme - please do not. Please use the widget with the styling fix from Richie. We should never advise using an older theme so apologies about that.
