When BuddyPress launched 1.6 they gave the option to move to the WP Admin bar.

So in that instance the old define wouldn't work.

Does the bar look similar to the on here at WPMU DEV?

If so then it's the WP Admin bar. If so then something like this would help:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/global-admin-bar-hide-or-remove/

Hey again.

I'm not sure what or where you mean here? Could you perhaps take a screenshot so I better understand?

from Dashboard and if you are from WPMU staff, I've installed languages package since I need some blogs in arabic and it is mentioned arabic is included, but once installed there is no arabic language option? what .mo file for arabic I'm missing and how to sort that?

For translating WordPress:

http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Language#Arabic_.E2.80.93_.D8.B9.D8.B1.D8.A8.D9.8A_.28ar.29

Our plugins use the same process, all language files are found in the folders /languages/ and that is where you would add your translation. You can use something like poEdit for that:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress#Translating_With_Poedit

Excellent, glad you got this one sorted.

I have to be honest that the panel cool (it helps people) but the branding there is crazy for a multisite install. It would be good if there were some admin options there or if the WordPress parts were replaced by the site name without the need for third party plugins.

Not yet though sadly, so until then we have to use other ways.

Take care.

Hey bhusema,

This is possible by using a child theme for the BuddyPress theme you are using for the sub-sites.

If you are using the default theme, create a child theme and include the following in the css:

#bp-default{
margin-top: -25px !important;
}

#wp-admin-bar {
display: none !important;
}

Activate the parent theme on the main site and the child theme on the sub sites.

Here is how you can make one: http://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

Hope that helps, let me know if you get stuck.

Greetings! The white bar is created by a bit of CSS in your theme that adds 25px padding to the top of your site. Open your 'Social" theme > go to folder _Inc > go to folder css > and open adminbar.css. At the very top of the css, you'll see this:

body {
	padding-top: 25px;
}

Just change the padding to 0px, and this white area will vanish.

Ah, well that one is not the WP Admin bar. Its the BuddyPress admin bar

Ok... Create a new file and name it bp-custom.php then enter this into it:

define('BP_DISABLE_ADMIN_BAR', true);

Upload it to:

/wp-content/plugins/

So the path would be:

/wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php

This will disable your BuddyPress admin bar. :-)

Hey Rodrigo, welcome to WPMU Dev! :-)

You can grab a copy of the following plugin I released a short while ago:

http://auroral.co.uk/2011/04/04/remove-the-wordpress-default-admin-bar/

That will remove your WP admin bar.

I presume it was the WP admin bar and not the BuddyPress one?

Take care.

We need to hide the top admin bar even for logged users.
We are using wordpress/buddypress and Social Theme.
I already choose not to show the admin bar for users not registered/logged, but we want to hide it even for logged users.
Thank you very much,
Rodrigo

is there a way of removing this for new sites ?

Welcome to your new WordPress site!

If you need help getting started, check out our documentation on First Steps with WordPress. If you’d rather dive right in, here are a few things most people do first when they set up a new WordPress site. If you need help, use the Help tabs in the upper right corner to get information on how to use your current screen and where to go for more assistance.
Basic Settings

Here are a few easy things you can do to get your feet wet. Make sure to click Save on each Settings screen.

    Choose your privacy setting
Select your tagline and time zone
Turn comments on or off
Fill in your profile

Add Real Content

Check out the sample page & post editors to see how it all works, then delete the default content and write your own!

    View the sample page and post
Delete the sample page and post
Create an About Me page
Write your first post

Customize Your Site

Use the current theme — picolight — or choose a new one. If you stick with picolight, here are a few ways to make your site look unique.

    Set a background color
Select a new header image
Add some widgets
