Hiya el Rafa,

Just updating you here to let you know that Vlad has completely rewritten the sitemap module for this plugin. We have a release coming out shortly which should address the issues you're experiencing. It's difficult to account for all the various server configurations and multi-site setups that are out there, but the new version should be much more flexible (and some cool new options thrown in to boot).

Expect a release in the very near future. Thanks for all your feedback!

Hi guys,

As Mason's succinctly explained, the plugin would basically require an App for other domains at this point. I couldn't see a way around it myself as Facebook is requiring the domains.

Hope that's all working well for you guys at this point though. Just let us know if you have further questions.

Okay, it's working now. Not sure what the issue was. I went in and re-uploaded my db-config script and ran move-blogs.php again. Not sure if that fixed it or if it was just a fluke.

Hi Rich and welcome to WPMU DEV!

The Support System plugin does require an extra step in order to use it alongside Multi-DB as detailed in the following page:
http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/support-system/installation/

Could you please verify you've done that?

Also, have you installed the plugin via FTP? If not, could you try downloading a fresh copy and installing it directly through FTP? That would help to rule out any odd changes occurring with the files during installation.

Thanks,
David

Thanks for getting back to me David!

I'm looking into why this would require 777. In this particular case I'm using a VPS so it may be something I did. If you (or someone else that's a server expert there at WPMU dev) can check out my config details in my original post again and make some suggestions, that would be awesome.

As for the update frequency question, this might help:
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=183668

Also, take a look at this for good example usage of these features:
http://mashable.com/sitemap.xml

Hi el Rafa,

Sorry we missed your prior questions! I'll look into them with you here.

As for the permissions settings, is there any way you can find out from your host why 777 is required in such a case? It seems to be totally dependent on how the server's setup.

And could you please clarify what you mean regarding the update frequency and your index page? Do you mean the update of the sitemap file itself?

Thanks,
David

Hi,

Phil is right, the plugin doesn't use the_excerpt filter - however, get_the_excerpt() on the other hand does use the_content filter too, which then triggers the box showing up in a totally wrong place. The latest plugin release (v1.2.4, just released) should have a fix for this issue.

thanks Phil! When I removed that excerpt it no longer broke the theme, so it's definitely that .

Another problem I am getting is that the floating box randomly doesn't appear. when I then click on Inspect Element in chrome/firefox, it suddenly reappears.

I'll open a new ticket for that.

The plugin doesn't actually use the the_excerpt filter. Instead it uses the_content so this shouldn't be happening at all.

I'll ask the developer to take a look at why the code would be added here when it doesn't use that hook.

I've found out what the problem is...

It seems when you load a template tag like <?php the_excerpt(); ?> in the header of the theme (or anywhere for that matter), the plugin will then place the social buttons straight before that.

This is a problem when you are trying to set e.g. meta data for Facebook. In order for Facebook to show the correct related text etc, I need to define in the header: <meta property="og:description" content="<?php echo strip_tags(get_the_excerpt($post->ID)); ?>" />

My piece of header code looks like this:

<?php if (have_posts()):while(have_posts()):the_post();endwhile;endif;?>
<!-- Facebook Opengraph -->
    <meta property="fb:app_id" content="XXXXXX" />
    <meta property="fb:admins" content="XXXX" />
    <meta property="og:url" content="<?php the_permalink() ?>"/>
<?php if (is_single()) { ?>
    <meta property="og:title" content="<?php single_post_title(''); ?>" />
    <meta property="og:description" content="<?php echo strip_tags(get_the_excerpt($post->ID)); ?>" />
    <meta property="og:type" content="article" />
    <meta property="og:image" content="<?php echo wp_get_attachment_thumb_url( get_post_thumbnail_id( $post->ID ) ) ?>" />
<?php } else { ?>
    <meta property="og:site_name" content="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?>" />
    <meta property="og:description" content="<?php bloginfo('description'); ?>" />
    <meta property="og:type" content="website" />

<?php } ?>

As you can see, I load the Excerpt which sets the MetaData for Facebook Open Graph.

When I then view the source, once the page loads, this is what I get:
</div>STR.CRD is a sneaker and street culture festival now in it’s second year. In 2010 the event was hosted in Cape Town, and this year organisers Hardy Mcqueen and Stephan Le Roux decided to host it in Johannesburg’s Maboneng precinct, [...]" />

It seems that the plugin loads itself when it see's the first "the content" related tag. Is there a way to resolve this in the next release possibly?

No template tag I'm afraid - the plugin using Javascript to position itself. The hiding of the bar is again likely due to your theme and positioning it should sort that.

Thanks guys, I'll play around with it. It's quite irritating! Is there a way to manually insert the code via a template tag?

Will this also solve the problem of it not displaying sometimes?

Hiya!

Yep, as Uniimi says you'll need to play around with the placement settings and maybe use the selector to position the floating box.

Unfortunately it's hard to cater for every theme because they're all different but those option should allow you to get the placement right.

I don't think your screen shots made it in but I checked the link you provided. My sidebar did that too when I first activated it. I think I had to change a couple of the placement settings and save the options page and then it worked fine.

I'm using the following settings -

My box will be vertically positioned with respect to: Text
Offset: 0
Horizontal position of my box will be calculated with respect to RIGHT side of my PAGE
Offset: 0
Z index: 10000000
Allow fixed positioning in IE No

Though that does remind me, I haven't personally seen it in IE in a while. I'll take a look in the morning to verify that the issue is still resolved in IE for me as well.

hth!

It seems the Floating Social bar appears on the top of old posts, and sometimes also doesn't appear on posts at all.

The error appears on posts: http://10and5.com/2011/02/17/geely-mk-tv-ad/
Screenshot attached. It seems to only be a problem on older posts. However the non-display of the plugin happens on recent posts as well.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Hiya wave,

There are several basic scenarios to consider:
1) Individual site, with individual Facebook app
2) WordPress multisite install, network activated plugin, single Facebook app
3) WordPress mutlisite install, network activated plugin, multiple Facebook apps
4) WordPress mutlisite install, plugin activated on individual sites,
multiple Facebook apps

The domain mapped sites will work with scenarios 1, 3 and 4, provided
that each site is set up with a properly configured Facebook app -
meaning, each site has its' own Facebook app that is configured to
work with the site mapped domain. One caveat for scenario 3 is that
the network admin shouldn't force Facebook API data to child site
owners from network settings.

Hope this helps!

I am confused!
Can the FB plugin handle mapped domains? Yes or no?

I get the following error when trying to grant permissions

API Error Code: 191
API Error Description: The specified URL is not owned by the application
Error Message: redirect_uri is not owned by the application.

All FB application URLs are pointing to the mapped domain, not to the domain hosting the WP multi site install. This is the way I want it as I want no reference to the multi site install domain.

Hi bizzyweb,

Hmm, you're using Authorize.net, correct?

You mentioned this error comes up for this product only, does that mean other purchases have gone through just fine?

Is there anything specific that's different about this product compared to other products that aren't yielding the error?

Also, the core developer behind MarketPress mentions a few things to consider regarding using Authorize.net and MarketPress in the following thread:
http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/multisite-store-with-authorizenet

There is a problem when trying to purchase the following item in live credit card mode only. Manual payment gateway works just fine.

https://excelfamilyhealth.com/store/products/trancor-gaba-glutamate-balance-formula/

After you add it to your shopping cart, go through the purchaser and payment information gathering process, and click "Confirm Payment", This error comes up, for this product only.

We populated the products by importing hundreds of products, and we fear that this isn't an isolated incident.

Any suggestions on what we should look for?

I'm also experiencing the exact same problem as Ovidiu, random avatars failing across the site. It's always only 1 random failed thumbnail, the others are all fine. I'm using Quick Cache as well. Like Ovidiu I've turned Quick Cache off as it's not needed yet, but I'd suggest there is certainly an issue here... shame as Quick Cache is a really nice plugin.
