Hey there.

Looking at the errors it is indeed looking for a file which isn't in the right path, it's because this file:

recent-global-author-posts-feed.php

Needs to be uploaded to:

/wp-content/

and not:

/wp-content/recent-global-author-posts-feed/recent-global-author-posts-feed.php

Hi again!

This newbie is keeping you on your toes! LOL

Sorry, but I have something else to report. The installed plugin Global Author post feed cannot be activated because of a fatal error. Here is the message I got:
Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Warning: require_once(../wp-load.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hermes/bosoraweb063/b1343/ipg.soulfulwriter/wp-content/plugins/recent-global-author-posts-feed/recent-global-author-posts-feed.php on line 30 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required '../wp-load.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php-5.3.13/lib/php') in /hermes/bosoraweb063/b1343/ipg.soulfulwriter/wp-content/plugins/recent-global-author-posts-feed/recent-global-author-posts-feed.php on line 30

Now, you might say, "well, it's looking for a file under soulfulwriter/wp-content NOT soulfulwriters (with an "s" at the end) but the other plugins have been activated OK under soulfulwriters/wp-content since soulfulwriter is no longer a directory or URL (although it's the main domain I opened the hosting account with) because I changed it to my other domain soulfulwriters.com, which is set up at root level as the network kahuna. So, because the other guys have not had a problem activating, I infer that something in this plugin must have triggered the fatal error. You are the geniuses so you will know best why this baby doesn't want to walk.

Kind regards,

Barbara

@qlikco sorry it took me a while to get back to you. Basically with the feed style plugins you just copy the .php file only upto the content folder.

as long as you have installed the indexer as mentioned in the usage tabs you are good to go.

There are very few plugins that don't work the standard way when it comes to installs. But all of them have the install process documented in the usage tab if there is something different than the normal install.

But anytime you are not sure, don't worry just drop a question here and one of us will get back to you asap

Tom, I appreciate your expertise, however this should be made clearer to the end users.
As a super admin, I put total faith in the WPMUDEV dashboard which enables me to install plugins. I assume that there is no fiddling about with folders and FTP upload....otherwise this should be specified up-front.

What do I have to put in the wp-content folder: the whole plugin folder (eg: recent-global-author-posts-feed) or some of its contents, such as .php file.

Furthermore, there are other plugins showing similar behaviours (eg: tag feed, recent-global-comments-feed, recent-global-posts-feed, post-indexer): what shall I do with these: copy the entre plugin folder to wp-content or some of its contents only, such as the .php file.

Thank you for your support.

So did you follow this step

This plugin MUST be uploaded to /wp-content/ using FTP this isn't a standard plugin it's a feed generator and these site in the wp-content root folder.

That is a real RSS feed. It uses the WordPress system to generate a XML feed and that is how that feed is formated.

I wonder if some readers don't pick it up because of the date there was a publication last made. Mon, 04 Jun 2012 14:15:08 +0000

Perhaps make a new post and then try again?

I want to bring the "Global Author Posts Feed" Adress to the people, the problem ist, that the URL is a PHP Adress. The built-in RSS Reader of Wordpress can read it, but "outside" I have not found any reader, who can read this adress as a real RSS Feed and I always get a 404 Failure back!

On my site it looks this way:
http://domain.com/wp-content/recent-global-author-posts-feed.php?author=2

How can I force the Plugin to transform the feed into a real and working RSS Feed? Perhaps an update by WPMU Dev would be very useful!

Has anyone else this problem and found a solution?

Ya as you noticed the original issue was due to not being installed correctly in /wp-content/

For this new error, I was just testing on my own install and it seems to work just fine.

I'm don't believe this is the plugin as your normal RSS feeds are just the same:

domain.com/feed/

Please enable the default Twenty Eleven theme and then test again. You can also test with all plugins disabled to ensure there is no conflict there.

The error usually happens when there is an extra space somewhere I believe.

Let me know how you go.

Greetings together!

I used the plugin for a longer while in my WPMU installation, for maintrance it shut it off, as I wanted to reacrivate it, I got this error message:

Warning: require_once(../wp-load.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /srv/http/lakajira.com/wp-content/plugins/recent-global-author-posts-feed/recent-global-author-posts-feed.php on line 30 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required '../wp-load.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php') in /srv/http/lakajira.com/wp-content/plugins/recent-global-author-posts-feed/recent-global-author-posts-feed.php on line 30

Has anyone an idea what is happening there? Can anyone help me?

Gerrit

I've updated those instructions now. :-)

1. Install the Post Indexer
2. Download the Recent Global Author Posts Feed plugin file
3. Unzip the file into a folder on your hard drive
4. Upload recent-global-author-posts-feed.php to /wp-content/

Thanks.

Saying that, they appear to have been changed to be incorrect. You need to copy the recent-global-author-posts-feed.php to wp-content directory. It shouldn't be in the plugins directory.
