I've established a dev version of a multisite install that currently has only 2 sites.

I mainly wanted to use the privacy plugin as a quick way to establish a single password for viewing the dev version of the site.

After installing and choosing settings, and clicking 'update sites', the network admin is now stuck on a page that says:

Applying to sites, please wait...

0 of 1 sites updated

If I view source, there is a little js script that has this line in it, not sure if this is relevant:

Hm that is really strange. the only thing I can think of is a plugin conflict on my end. However, I have since removed the login limit and log plugin because of it so I honestly dont remember all the setting combinations I had going.

As far as multisite privacy settings I had the option at signup for user to choose and by default any visitor could visit a site.

To keep things simple I think that making one entire post public would be easiest.

I don't see this functionality in the plugin, and would be happy to attempt writing it myself. Some hints from the developer would really mean a lot.

Hey there

I am no longer using the plugin but I believe it was "Limit Login Attempts" also you can check by using the Log plugin which was http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-multisite-login-log/

You will see when privacy is turned on for a subsite each visit you do will result in the log as a failed login attempt. I kinda think its the nature of the plugin and might not be any easy way around it.

Any attempt to the blog even when it asks for the password was showing as a failed login attempt from what I recall. Thanks for looking into it :)

Hi there Mike (@ThinkTaiwan)

I hope you are well today.

I've never come across this issue before, so basically if a sub site is private and you have any sort of login lockdown it registers as a failed login attempt.

Does this happen say if you visit wp-login.php of the site in question and login first? Which plugin are you using to stop the logins etc? Just so I can test this out myself and see if there's a way around this.

Thanks for being a WPMU DEV member!

Hey Guys

I came across an issue recently that I didn't bring up at the time but I do hope it can be solved so here it is.

When using the great multisite privacy plugin (love it) it conflicts with any brute force attack plugin I have found. Strange as it may sound, what happens is any time someone visits a "Private" site on the network it registers as a "Failed login attempt"

If the blog is visited enough times in a short matter of time, the IP and user is blocked (happened to me!) Also, I was using a plugin that logged all failed attempts and this is how I found out this is what it was really doing

The log was filled with failed login attempts from me just simply visiting private blogs on the network. Any way around this by chance? Thanks!

I found a solution. The plugin looks for role capability. For "private" sites (case -2), this is set to "read". By changing this to "edit_posts" or "delete_posts", I can lock out Subscribers from accessing the site, but allow any higher role. Not ideal, but it will work.

function additional_privacy_can_access_blog($blog_id) {
    $privacy = get_blog_option($blog_id, 'blog_public');
    switch( $privacy ) {

It's not possible directly, however, you could write a quick script that would determine the blogs for you:

# replace 100 with the highest ID# of your blogs
for ($i = 1; $i <= 100; $i++) {
	$privacy = get_blog_option( $i, "blog_public", 1 );
	if($privacy < 0){
		echo "<p>Privacy set on blog $i</p>";
	}
}

You'll need to run this in the context of WP - so putting it in a simple plugin would be the easiest method.

Hiya,

Greetings and thanks for writing back.

Sorry but I could not understand what you are trying to achieve here.

Is it possible to restrict registered users to specific roles? We'd like to omit Subscribers.

Are you looking to stop subscribers from accessing the site ?

If yes, them you can simply stop subscriber registrations and do not allow them to register at all.

However, if you just want to restrict subscriber role (which is already much restricted) you can user a Role Editor plugin.

Please advise.

Cheers, PC

Hi, originating member is inactive, but still wanted to answer this as it'll be useful for other members.

The method suggested above would be overwritten on each plugin update and it would not be recommendable to do it this way, rather a tool such as poedit should be used to translate/replace the text you want in the .pot file in the languages file.

You would need to create a .mo and a .po file from the .pot file.

Multisite privacy plugin is stalling out after 202 of my 287 websites on my student network. I really need to get this going. Here is what I have done:
-deactivate all plugins
-installed multisite privacy
-network activated multisite privacy
-configured it and updated all blogs
At this point it cannot get beyond site 202. It just stops running. I have let it sit for hours, too. I end up deleting the plugin through FTP so that I can get back into the network admin section of our site.

I really need this to work for the protection of my students. I appreciate any help towards solving this problem, virtual beer all around on me once fixed! :)

Hi,

When I install the latest version the plugin jams me at

Applying to sites, please wait...
0 of 5 sites updated

Waited for 10 minutes and nothing happens. When I try to navigate somewhere else, it blocks me and the applying text comes up again on a blank site.
