Hiya Trent,

First off, welcome to WPMU DEV!

Interesting problem, I've not heard of a good solution for accomplishing this either. It's not really the scenario we had in mind for our comment indexer plugins either. I'll ask a couple of the devs to stop by and see if they have any suggestions.

Anyone else have something in place like what Trent's looking for?

Thanks!

Hello,

I've signed up as a member here in hopes that I'd be able to find a solution for something I've spent two days tracking down. It's amazing to me that there doesn't seem to be a solution for this anywhere out there yet because I would think the need would be quite common.

I run a network of sites. Many times there is a need to push the same blog out to many of the sites at the same time. I use a plugin called multipost for this. But there doesn't seem to be a way to show all of the comments for these identical posts within each post. That is when the article is posted on Site A, Site B, and Site C each of these sites will show all comments on the same article from across the network.

Word Press does have native comment feeds for each post. So the best I've been able to figure out so far is to go to a service like FeedMix and manually create a new combined feed for the individual comment feed from each post. I can then insert that combined comment feed into the bottom of the network-wide post.

When I came across post indexer, comment indexer and tag feeder I thought that might be a better solution... but that doesn't seem to be the case. If I could tag each duplicate post with the same tag and have a feed that output the COMMENTS only for posts with those tags that would be ideal!!! This would allow me to grab a feed of comments on the same post content from across the network.

Does anyone have any other ideas for how I might be able to group comments on "shared" content?

Thanks,
Trent

Hi,

We have installed a plug-in to syndicate blog posts from all of the blogs in our community onto our homepage.

This sykdication software seems to work with all other blogs from external sites, but when we try to syndicate feeds from other blogs in our community it is not working.

For example, we want to syndicate blogs such as ixpo.4.biz/blog and display.4.biz/blog so that the posts from those blogs appears on our main blog page at blogs.4.biz.

Is this problem theme related? We have tried a few syndication plug-ins but we have had the same problem on all of them.

Hi guys,
Just to follow up on this post from a while back. It may be of use to someone else...

In the end I found a plugin that works a treat for posting to all blogs on my MU. The plugin is Multi Post and it adds a very simple control to the post that lets me set which blog to publish the post on (one, all or check the specific blogs that I want the post published to).

Here's the link to the plugin. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/multipost-mu/

Ok, I still have the full post in every blog but I knew that was necessary from talking to Andrew. This plugin just makes it so easy to publish one post to many or all blogs and no messing about with SQL or RSS.

Hi guys,
I've a question about syndicating content with a WPMU site. Let's say I have 100 blogs running on my WPMU and I need content from one blog (maybe the primary site) published on all these blogs.

I know I can use Autoblog to pull this content in but it will replicate the posts 100 times over in the database (right?). It will work but won't be very efficient.

Is there another option whereby I could query the DB tables of the primary blog to get these posts and display them on the 100 blogs? It would be great if you could point me in the right direction.

cheers,

Hiya,

I'm by no means a SEO expert but if you're aggregating the full posts on the main blog then there's really no way to avoid the main blog outranking the user blogs. Basically search engines will see the main blog as being updated with fresh content more often.

I would think limited the main blog to teasers would help but that's definitely a question for a SEO expert.

Thanks,

I have an active MU network running with about 49 blogs. They are getting about 1 post per week.

On the parent install of MU, I added a magazine style theme, and I am pulling in the posts from all the child blogs to the front page.

What I am concerned about is SEO and duplicate content problems. I do not want the parent install to have more relevance then the child blogs which are the content originators. Because of the SEO work I did on the parent site, it is outranking the original blogs for keywords in under 48 hours.

I am considering using teaser posts, with links back to the original blogs, but that takes away from the front end site user experience in my opinion. What do you think?

Have any of you worked on a project like this before, and if so, what would you recommend doing when syndicating content from other users?

Helping the child blogs achieve success all on their own is my priority, I do not want to harm their ranking in any way. I only want to enhance it with a nice front end web site to promote all the content in the network.
