I've looked through everything and that should not be an issue with the latest 3.4.1 plugin version. I think you may not have updated the avatars.php file in mu-plugins.

options-discussion.php is not required with 3.0, and is not included with the plugin anymore. Also as drmike said the bbpress plugin goes in my-plugins and has to be activated. I'll update the instructions.

Create a /my-plugins/ subdirectory within the bbpress setup and put the file in there I believe:

Hmmm.

Following the Avatar plugin installation instructions at http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/avatars/installation/ to see if I could troubleshoot the problem so I thought I'd download the plugin. The download does not contain an options-discussion.php file as mentioned in the instructions.

Now wondering if this is part of the problem.

Clicking on the Edit link in the Avatar column on the Super Admin/Users page returns "Apologies, but the page you requested could not be found. Perhaps searching will help."

The page it's trying to access is http://davidjames.realestatetribe.com.au/wp-admin/wpmu-admin.php?page=edit-user-avatar&uid=14

I had a similar problem with the Messaging plugin. The issue was resolved by replacing inbox.php, which was deleted when wp-admin was deleted as per the instructions at http://wpmu.org/how-to-upgrade-wpmu-2-9-2-to-wordpress-3-0-in-5-easy-steps/.

I have checked and options-discussion.php is in the wp-admin folder as per the plugin installation instructions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. But what do you mean by the avatar being displayed on the page. Do you mean the author avatar will be displayed on the page that the author created? or all the avatars of my members displayed on the page? When you say "that page", which page that you are talking about?

Looks like a conflict with the "reveal-ids-for-wp-admin-25" plugin. If you don't care about avatars being displayed on that page you can just comment out lines 62 and 63 in avatars.php.

I have installed the Avatar plugin into my WPMU site. However, it shows this notice:

Following is the picture of this notification.

Please let me know what is this and how can I solve it. It this a common problem or it is something I have to get rid of it as soon as possible. Please advise. Thanks.

@Andrew - thanks :) I got it sorted. It was a permissions issue which I sorted out in the blog.dir and subs folder.

There's really no need to bump threads. We go through the forums from the bottom up replying to older threads first. So bumping a thread results in a longer wait ;)

Check the ownership for blogs.dir and make sure it's the user running the webserver process. For Apache based setups the owner should be apache. Also search through the BP forums as this issue has most likely been covered numerous times.

@TTiger - click on one of the options below "create a new post" - for eg if you're having theme issues, click on "themes" - from there you'll have an option to create a new post. :)

changed the file permissions from 755 to 777 - no difference. This seems to be a problem for all files uploading to the blogs.dir path, as now plugin uploads are failing too. I didn't have any problems uploading group avatars a few days ago. I did by mistake move my wp-contents folder into wp-includes (super sensitive mouse it seems!) but moved it back when I realised the error. So the path is correct. But I wonder if something went wrong there? Argh! Help!

Try changing the permissions on the wp-content folder to 755 or 777. (Right click on the folder in your FTP client and then check the boxes or enter the numbers.) More info here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions

Can I get you to confirm that you haven't installed the Avatars plugin http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/avatars on your site? Sorry for asking but my understanding is your site is a BuddyPress site and if you have installed the avatars plugin that will be the issue. The Avatars plugin isn’t compatible with BuddyPress because it has it's own inbuilt avatar system.

I've checked the forums, but haven't found anyone with my problem yet ... my avatar upload seems to be successful (loads 100%) but then the page refreshes with the following:

Upload Failed! Error was: Unable to create directory /var/www/vhosts/homeschoolhub.co.za/subdomains/ww2/httpdocs/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/3. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

What to do? (and assuming the problem does lie with the file permissions - which file should be altered and to what permissions?)

Yeh, most images used for avatars are rather small. So as long as you're on a stable connection it isn't much of an issue.
