Yep!

Go to Settings>Discussion>Default article settings and uncheck the box next to "Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)"

I can't find a way to do that for all blogs at once though. Of course, you could use New Blog Templates to make sure that all new blogs have trackbacks turned off!

Hiya!

Atom Publishing Protocol and XML-RPC are disabled for new blogs but I thought that was only for users publishing remotely to their blog

Yep, that's correct!

The pingback line is all about administering pingbacks between blogs. You can read up more about how that all works at http://codex.wordpress.org/Introduction_to_Blogging#Pingbacks

Cheers!

I picked a random blog from my multisite install, the theme seems to have the correct hooks set and in the source code of the page I do find:

<link rel="pingback" href="http://marius.zice.ro/xmlrpc.php" />

does this mean this blog can receive pingbacks? can it also send pingbacks to other blogs?

if I click that rpc link I get this feedback in my browser:

XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.

is this ok? any configuration I am missing?
by default Atom Publishing Protocol and XML-RPC are disabled for new blogs but I thought that was only for users publishing remotely to their blog.
can someone enlighten me a little, please?

Our install has the additional-privacy plug-in which is important for us. But when I try to use ScribeFire or other blog editor I receive errors. If I remove additional-privacy or change my blog's privacy level to one of the defaults (i.e. visible to all and search engines or visible to all but not search engines), the errors go away and I can edit posts.

Is there a way to have a private blog and edit via xml-rpc?
Thanks,

Hiya,

You can either write a script that will loop through all blogs or you can toss a plugin into mu-plugins that will enable it the next time someone logs in to a blog. Either way you're going to have to do a bit of custom coding I'm afraid.

Thanks,

I'm finding that trackbacks and pingbacks are not working reliably with my main blog or any of the hosted blog accounts. Of course, I would prefer that pingbacks just work since they are supposed to be effortless.

I have "Allow pings" checked on every post and page and "Allow comments" on the majority.

I don't know if it matters, but I have XML-RPC enabled on some blogs to allow software updates, but it doesn't seem to make a difference to pingbacks.

I usually get a pingback if I link between articles in the same blog. I'm puzzled. For example, http://bestagentblogs.com/twitter-in-plain-english-video/ shows the pingback from http://bestagentblogs.com/blogs-in-plain-english-video/ (I deleted most pingbacks among these pages, but left this one as an example.)

I created this page to test:
http://bestagentblogs.com/trackback-pingback-test/

Update: Nothing appears in the "Discussion" section of the initiating blog to indicate that a ping was sent anywhere.
