And sorry, just had one more question...for some reason when I try to subscribe to the rss feed for either questions or answers for my site, I get redirected back to the main rss feed for my site - is there something I forgot to do?

Hi epijunky,

There's not a built-in way to do that however, admins could easily subscribe to the question and answer rss feeds to get updates, like so:
yourdomain.com/feed/?post_type=questions
yourdomain.com/feed/?post_type=answers

Just to mention too, the following request thread deals with adding custom post type support for the Subscribe by Email plugin which could potentially be used to provide that type of thing without needing to use rss. Please feel free to add your vote there!
