<p>Absolutely you can add as many languages as you desire.</p>
<p>Just pop your .mo and .po files right into the languages folder as shown in the screen shot below.</p>
<p>You may not need to make them yourself reinventing the wheel, the .mo and .po files may be already made for you at: <a href="http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-i18n/" target="_blank">http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-i18n/</a></p>
<p>Concerning WPML, it is a commercial plugin that offers many features outside of our Languages for WordPress plugin and though ours does the basic WordPress translating, WPML goes much further to include the ability to offer custom content in several different languages.</p>
