Hi Gina,

I still haven't had the time to review this in more detail actually, but happy to mark it as resolved for now and I'll come back if needs be. It'll be a while before I check through it all.

Thanks!

Hey Joe,

I'm afraid I still haven't had a chance to look properly into the details yet, so haven't had a chance to do any debugging. I'll investigate and get back to you.

Thanks for the pro-active reply! What you're saying makes perfect sense.

Greetings bigspring,

It indeed runs a lot of queries though that also depends upon what features are activated and I suppose also how many blogs it is serving.

Our database (held on our dev server) is on a different network, but the ping is only 27ms.

True 27 ms round trip on a single packet of data which is certainly not bad but then again horrible compared to 0ms when it is hosted on the same box and we need to account for MySQL processing time too. However, I have some other ideas below as well to try to accurately figure this out.

Have you folks perhaps tried the database as localhost of the web server and seen a performance change for the better?

Also similar to plugin troubleshooting, have you by any chance tried shutting down certain features of this plugin to see if you can put the finger on one particular feature that is causing this issue?

Please try that to see if one single module is causing this issue and let me know your results. It would be greatly appreciated and helpful in nailing this down to the cause or source of the issue.

Please advise.

Cheers, Joe

Hehe, it's amazing how many people comment on the avatar. I'm a huge fan myself :)

Our database (held on our dev server) is on a different network, but the ping is only 27ms. Note that we've never had this issue with any other plugins and have used the same setup for a long time, so I don't think it's specifically related to the database itself unless the branding plugin runs lots of queries. I can't see why it would though.

Greetings bigspring,

And all the other fans of "Dark Side of the Moon" like myself!

The only difference from standard localhost setup here is the database is held remotely, but I've installed major plugins like Buddypress and there's been no noticeable difference.

Hmmmm .... very intriguing I do admit.

I am curious as to how much the remote database lag is slowing things down. The round trip of the request for data and then the trip for the reply - of course in nanoseconds or milliseconds.

Is it within the same internal network or?

Very very interesting indeed.

Please advise.

Cheers, Joe

Greetings aecnu!

This is running off localhost on my Macbook Pro 2011. Also tested on a 2010 MBP and a HP PC. I'd have thought the MBP 2011 should have been fine.

Greetings bigspring,

Thank you for the great question but what kind of hosting is this running on?

This plugin literally screams on our Dual Quad Core Xeon servers with many other plugins installed as well.

Please advise.

We just tried out the ultimate branding plugin on a multisite network we've just setup and when we enable it, the site runs incredibly slowly. The front end appears to work OK, but the backend suffers. I'd say it's about 4 times slower.

I've not really spent any time digging into why yet, but wanted to mention it on here first in case it's something known. Any ideas?
