But would a hyperlink to a sub-blog cause these errors?

It's not a hyperlink. Whatever is creating your sitemaps is thinking that those are Posts within your main blog.

drmike,

I am using a custom solution that reposts sub-blog content up the the main blog (but the links all direct a reader back to the sub-blog). It's the only way I could figure out how to make my front page promote all sub-blog posts.

But would a hyperlink to a sub-blog cause these errors?

I thought you said that google wouldn't accept MU sitemaps with subdomain installs...

Not a problem. There is a big large sitemap plugin. Let me see if I can find it. The problem with that though is if you;re on a subdomain install, Google won;t use it for the subdomains because the sitemap has to be within the url. For example, if the sitemap is at mydomain.tld/sitemap.xml and you can physically include blah.mydomain.tld/mypage/ within that sitemap, Google won't it because it sits outside of mydomain.tld.

Of course if you;re using a subdirectory install, a sitewide sitemap works fine.

If housingstorm.com is the main blog for this install and the others are subdomains, looks more like all of content is being put together into one sitemap.

Are you using one of the sitewide tags solutions on this install, like Donncha's?

Ah, so it's a domain mapping issue. Thes another thread out there where mapped domains are reverting to the subdomain and being rejected.

No...I'm not using anything for a robots.txt. And, all of those sites are searchable by google.

In the bit of searching I did on this, I found that google may not accept site maps for subdomain installs.

Meaning: Site.com/blog is okay, but blog.Site.com isn't.

Is anyone else with a subdomain nstall able to get google to accept their sitemap?

See Dr. Mike in this thread

Hiya,

First question is are you sure your blogs are set up to be searchable by google? It's the most basic thing, but I know I've developed a site and forgot to switch this setting once it was ready to go live. :D

Are you using anything for a robots.txt? Check for <meta name='robots' content='noindex, nofollow' /> on the sites. That'll block Google Bots every time.

My site generates a sitemap, but it is rejected by google, saying:

"This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location."

This error appears for all of my blog.site.com blogs.

Do I have something configured wrong? Or is this just the best we can do with MU/MS and google sitemaps?
