2.8 for buddypress?
Is there an e.t.a. on the 2.8 vs. of the multi-db plugin yet?
After a number of months working on the wordpressmu/buddypress setup for my server, I am now about ready to launch. The only thing I have left to wait for is the multi-db.

Is there an e.t.a. on the 2.8 vs. of the multi-db plugin yet?
Multi-DB versions are synced with WPMU versions. So we're aiming to have Multi-DB 2.8 out when WPMU 2.8 is released.
Thanks,
Andrew
WP 2.8 is still a way away, isn't it?

Padding the count of how many people are going to ask? Another round of bets on how many times will come up?
I am not really surprised by the amount of people that have asked and will *continue* to ask about this. Personally I see people finding it easier to grow a social network community than a blog community, so growth is fast. If you already have a big site and then decide to use buddypress, you can drastically increase the resources needed to accommodate this growth. The surprising part to me is the people taking it on without any official release yet :)

Yep.

I've been surprised by that as well.
Thanks,

I dunno why I'm so shocked people are asking for 2.8 when it isn't even out yet. I mean, it's the same reason hwy so many people are using BP in a pre-beta state:
they aren't reading. :D

Considering that 2.7.1 still isn't out yet....
Have to admit that we already have all of the functionality of BP already except for Groups with current plugins. That's actually what I find surprising.
The reason I asked about 2.8 is because in the 2.7 beta thread it is clearly stated that 2.7 multi-db does NOT support buddypress. We were told to wait for 2.8 multi-db for buddypress support.
I had no idea that 2.8 multi-db was tied to the 2.8 release of wordpress.
Frankly I don't care what vs. is needed, I was just trying to find out how long it would be before multi-db supports buddypress.
As to buddypress being 'beta', that is correct of course. Together with Nicola we have been 'stress testing' buddypress to see if we could break it. Every time we have found an issue, Nicola has had a fix for me within hours if not minutes. So for beta software, it for me at least is very stable.
And yes, I do have a decent sized website already, with about 22k members. When we do convert to wordpressmu-buddypress, I can almost guarantee my traffic is going to skyrocket. With my db over 1GB already, there is no way I can even think of trying to launch this without a multi-db setup.
There isn't really a huge rush for me as Andrea and Ron told me they were booked until mid March, so I still have a few weeks before their services are available to me. I was just hoping to have all my ducks in a row before they are ready to begin on my project.
I must be tired... so the multi-db version relies on the wpmu version?
(I need to go read that thread again).
A while back several users complained that it was too hard to keep track of what versions of Multi-DB work with certain versions of WPMU. So basically we've made it easy. Multi-DB 2.7.x works with WPMU 2.7. We're doing this only for this one plugin because if you're using the wrong version WPMU will usually fail to load.
To lessen confusion we also won't be releasing Major Multi-DB updates in between WPMU releases. We're currently recoding Multi-DB from the ground up to address a host of issue and are aiming to release it when WPMU 2.8 is released.
Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew:
Is there going to be a bridge script that will work in the interum before 2.8 that will work with buddypress?
If so, is there any e.t.a. as of yet?
You mention a host of issues with the current vs. which is why the complete rewrite. Does this mean that you would not suggest using multi-db for live sites?
curious what problems I should expect that you are referring to should I use your plugin.

There won't be a major release before 2.8.

There aren't any issues that should affect a typical WPMU install. You're fine to use it on a live site. We're using it on many live sites including Edublogs.
Thanks,
Andrew
