Greets:
Just was wondering if anyone has hacked the Social Theme to add in a photo slider on the front page. I have a ticket to work that in and was wondering if anyone had done it yet.
thanks,
-drmike

I had done some major re-plumbing on social before, but I don't have that code anymore (hack and dump job)
Can't you lift the slider on buddydaily and place it in?

That's a thought. Thanks.
Not a big fan of dealing with javascripts. Back in my day, we didn;t have to deal with javascripts. We just used text. And we had to walk five miles through the lava and the snow....
I have to switch networks. Be back in a few hours. McDonalds really is poor this morning. Lots of dropping.

Here's pushing the thought -- make the slider a plug-in for easy reuse. ;)
(I was contemplating this as an exercise for next week's break)

Actually there are slider plugins out there. Have one somewhere. Rather just add to the theme instead of install yet another plugin.

Haven't found a really good one yet -- the theme ones i find are better.
CNET carousel is cool plug-in though.

Dang, just reread the ticket. Panel sliders. Not just photos.
Have to think about this.

What do you mean sliding Panel? Accordion type?

Instead of just images sliding right to left, html with links on top of an image as a background.
First panel: Promoting the blog with links to those features...
Second panel: Promoting the forums with links to those features....
Third panel: Promoting the community features with links....
etc.
I just have to sit here and think about it.

I'm looking for a way to insert a slider on the home page similar to the Product Theme. Has anyone made any progress on this yet? I like drmike's idea ... that would be PERFECT!

I also want to use Social, and I also want a slider on the home page in place of the graphic on the left, as shown in the demo.
I found this Slidedeck system that looks fantastic. http://www.slidedeck.com/wordpress/
It allows you to change the width and height of the slider, and many more options. I'm thinking this would work into the Social theme very well.
Downside? The price! It's expensive. They do have a free version for testing, and you could probably run with it full time, but it lacks a few of the features I really want.

Check out the demo, and look at the RSS Feed source. Simply amazing. Re-sizes images perfectly. I used a few RSS feeds from my other sites and all the images looked great.
BTW - I have nothing to do with this software. I just think it's totally cool. Maybe I'm easily impressed :)
This could be a killer WPMUDEV Premium Plugin :)
