Adding Weight Value to Products for Paypal Integration

Inactive

I am using MarketPress along with a standard Paypal Express Checkout eocommerce solution. I'm trying to determine delivery by weight and zip code, but MarketPress does not feature that functionality. I can add costs per weight in Paypal itself, but have no way of adding that value in the plugin. Please help. Shipping has got to be the most confusing part of all this. Thanks!

Hiya!

MarketPress doesn't support weight-based shipping at the moment I'm afraid. However, we are looking at added additional shipping options to future versions of the plugin.

Thanks, Phil

When do you plan on making this change? My site goes live next Wednesday and I was hoping to stay with this plugin. But I might have to drop it if that is the case.

We're always improving our plugins but as a rule we don't provide ETAs as we just can't be certain when we'll have new stuff out.

Do you know of any workarounds to add a weight variable to a a product manually?

Inactive

You could use the variation section to add a specific extra shipping cost if you know the weight of that item....

My concern is that people will order multiples of the same product and I don't want to charge them $5 (for example) with every product. I think the more they spend the more lenient I should be on shipping costs.

So how about this - in Paypal I have all of my pricing parameters set up based on dollar volume. 0 - $50 pay 10% shipping, $51 and up pay 7% shipping, etc.

But for some reason MarketPress is not identifying the settings within my Paypal account. Or in other words when I am redirected to the Paypal page there is no "shipping" option.

Does Marketpress block my preferences in Paypal?

MarketPress only uses PayPal to process the actual payment, hence why your shipping settings are not used.

Something similar has been asked for before and I know there are extra shipping features on the list so I'll make the developer aware of this particular scenario for factoring into future development.

+1 for the option to use Paypal's own shipping calculations on checkout (if using Paypal Express gateway)

Their system is fairly robust, and you can do things that are more advanced than the basic flat rate system that MP offers -- for example, pricing the shipping based on how far away the customer is.

I'm in California, and it's $10 to ship to Seattle, but $17 to ship the same exact item to Boston.

Sounds like a good idea, nickd32.

There's some work in progress regarding shipping options as you can see with the latest release and its table rate shipping. I'll tag Aaron on this thread too in case he's got some comments to add.

Cheers,
David

I posted code for a few variants of the new table rate plugin on this thread:

http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/shipping-variables

Aaron is aware of them, so hopefully some nice new official options will appear sooner rather than later :-)

One of the variants adds shipping weight to the add/edit product item shipping details section, and allows the user to set up a table of shipping fees based on total order weight.

The weight fields are simply numbers - so you can treat them as grammes, kilos, pounds, ounces, tonnes or whatever. You just need to be consistent in that regard (e.g. ALL product weight values expressed as kilos or whatever)

cstevenson added a combination of a couple of the examples - giving a weight-based shipping table with different fees for domestic (UK in his case I believe), EU or International.

The shipping plugin framework makes adding such custom code easy as...

Staff

Hey guys.

Not sure if you have seen or not, but our latest release is here:

http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/marketpress-25-beta-cool-new-stuff

And it has weight based shipping! :-)

Test it and provide feedback, let us know how it goes so we can get the final release out for you all. :-)

Take care.
