I am trying to replace my bbpress standalone (integrated with wp 3.2.1 multisite) with the plugin but am having all sorts of trouble. I managed to import the old stuff aka forums and topics then managed to use a shortcode inserted in a page to display the forums but they look all weird and the permalinks don't work anymore.
I reverted back to the standalone version for now but I'd really appreciate it if you guys could do a write-up on this, maybe for wpmu.org?

That's a terrific idea for an article Ovidiu. We haven't even attempted this ourselves for the DEV forums, but looks like this will be something we'll all want to look at going forward. I saw sent out an email to the writers on wpmu.org so hopefully we'll see something written up soon.
I tried approaching the bbPress devs about some assistance, but never got a response. I still agree a writeup would be good and beneficial - but until someone finds the time (or has the need) one may not exist. I've nudged a few writers on wpmu.org so we'll see.
ah, well, sorry for bumping then. quite weird that nobody is interested in documenting this, did everyone else except me manage to get it right on their own?
well, I'll go bugger Mr. Google again maybe there is something useful out there I haven't found on my first search :-(
Just so we're clear, we're not holding out on ya - we've not yet decided to switch to the bbPress plugin as it'd be such a massive undertaking that outways any benefits for the moment. Any particular reason you're keen to move to the plugin version?
no particular reason except that the plugin version is supposed to "replace" the standalone version and it seemed to me that development is focused on the plugin version only nowadays...

Hiya!
I'll certainly flag this to the writing team to see about getting a guide up!
As far as I know v2 actually comes with an migration tool of sorts. Is that what you've been using?
Cheers,
Phil

jepp, I used the migration tool, but all it does is import.
all the info is out there but scattered around.
i.e. the standalone, was in a separate folder which needs to be moved.
the plugin seems to need a page where you embed a shortcode to show the forums.
no idea how and where to place bbpress plugins and themes anymore.
how to get to the bbpress admin panel for its plugins and themes? or are these not available anymore?
I hope these are some ideas to get your writing team started :-)

just wanted to go with the flow.

Ok, was just curious :)
If you find we've upgraded to the plugin and we don't have a awesome writeup about the process, you have permission to come hunt me down personally ;)
I haven't seen anyone provide this documentation nor spoken to anyone who's done it.
