I like the ad placements and options with WSA, but need the sharing Ad Sharing offers. Any chance that the two plugins will be merged?

We definitely will not be merging anything with WSA ;)
That thing is a monster as it is. What we are looking into for after the new year though is creating an advanced ad sharing plugin. It won't be quite as advanced as WSA but may have some of the same features.
Thanks,
Andrew

Yeah, I was thinking of an option that would only ask the user for an AdSense account number, use only my ad's but replace my ad number with the users ad number (still using the same ad format, just replacing the numbers) depending on what the split was. This way, the admin would be in control of the placement and colors, but the user could share in the clicks. No theme changes, since the admin would use the same adcode names that are already in place. If the user didn't include their ad number, admin would get 100%.

That would call for an 'adsense sharing' plugin. A lot of people use adsense so that's something we'll look into.

I am new to adsense, but it looks like the 'ad code' is the same for every user except for size, style and userid. So I would think a simple str_replace() would do the work, and only replace when it is time to show the users ID.
It could be as easy (well, in my mind) as adding two more options. A checkbox if you want to share, and a split pull down like in the ad share. If checked, it would add a new Option > Adsense page for the blog to enter their Adsense ID.
Pretty much all the code is there between the two plugins, but rather than maintaining two seperate plug-ins, it wraps them together.
The way it is now, you really have to choose one, or the other. WSA if you want good placement and matching colors for the ad's (I beleive more people click on ad's if it looks like it is part of the site), with the option of sharing, thus atracting users to the blog.
The remove ad plugin would then remove both options from the blog.

As a couple users pointed out when we released the Ad Sharing plugin, not everyone uses adsense. For this reason the current ad sharing plugin will stay as is. We'll probably release a plugin just for adsense.
Thanks,
Andrew

Any update on this? I'd love to be able to share adsense with my bloggers, but only to search engine vistors. That combo isn't possible with just the adsense sharing plugin yet, is it?

I'm afraid not. There hasn't been much interest in this for several months so it's not on the list at the moment. I think a lot of users have discovered that other services bring in more $ than adsense.
Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew, I am surprised at your statement.
Here are two great ideas
1. Who Sees Ads
2. Adsense Sharing
how could implementing 2 great ideas be a BAD idea?
sorry, I am scratching my head on this one.
Secondly, your comment
"I think a lot of users have discovered that other services bring in more $ than adsense."
Like what? Has anybody here discovered an alternative to Adsense?
Thirdly, Going back to the first part,
even though the above are some of the greatest plugins, only a small percent of people are going to be interested in them, lets say a number 10% and 20% respectively.
People who would want both may only be a 0-10%, because, 90% on the people may not even like one of the plugins.
2 positives dont make a negative. I for one cannot do rev sharing because, I only want to show to search traffic.

Hi Sean, it might be better to be a little more gentle in your persuasion :)
I also think you misinterpreted what Andrew said, namely that we're not saying it's a bad idea, just that it's quite low on the list.
We'll be working on new versions of a lot of plugins, and the theme pack, over the next few months and this kind of thing may find its way in - but we'll have to see how it pans out... there's nothing wrong with pointing out that it's not been requested by many users.

Another incomplete thought. Someone just pointed me at this for adsense ad sharing. Not sure if this is of interest to anyone:
