Hi all
I'm going to upload this version initially as a beta as it has a few changes in it, and a chunk of new functionality. Hopefully you will find the changes useful.
Fixes
- Trims all feed items to remove trailing spaces.
New functionality
- Set a start and end date for feeds (either/both optional) - so only posts between those dates will be imported.
- Use feed url or source url tags in the Link to Original Source field:
e.g.
%POSTURL% - will be replaced with the post url
%FEEDURL% - will be replaced with the feed url
so the entry:
Original post at %POSTURL%
will create a link that contains the above text and the posts url.

Just a question as I haven't had an opportunity to test in this way yet. Can the start date be before today? So can I start a feed from a previous date e.g. a date 2 days ago?
@aquapebble - I've set the date fields to allow dates from the previous year to be entered. Now, it obviously depends on the feed as to whether there are any posts in it from those dates though.
@pearsoncomm - no not yet, everything is still regarded as a post. Custom post types and standalone functionality (working on a blog by blog basis and administered by blog admin, rather than super admin) are in my todo list for the next update.
The other item that FWP supports now that would be great if AutoBlog did too is
Match inline tags:
Applies only to inline tags marked as links in the text of syndicated posts, using the ... microformat. Most feeds with "tags" just treat them as normal feed categories, like those handled above.
How will I be able to add the auto-blog for supporter plugin only?
With my sub-domain site, when I clicked on Auto blog. I got this error. How to fix this error?
Warning: fopen() [function.fopen]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/kingnet/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4165

My main website (www.king.net) is working ok for autoblog, but i can't make it work for my sub-domain and I can see the main site existing auto blog setup. I thought autoblog will manage it's own sub-domain? Please clarify.
I created a subdomain blog using world.westsummit.com, and tried to use autoblog. I can see the feed that I created in the main blog (www.westsummit.com). And I can't create an autoblog feed within world.westsummit.com subdomain.

I'm still not 100% sure what you are trying to do - you should be managing your autoblog from your main blog and directing the traffic to different blogs via the interface - is that what you are doing and having a problem? or are you trying to do something else?
In the main website, when I selected the destination sub-domain "Add posts to". The "Set author for new posts", "If author in feed does not exist locally use", and "Assign posts to this category" said loading ... (it's taking forever). This where I can choose to post as other subdomain user. If I ignore this click submit, the article will be submitted by the main site admin not the subdomain user.
Question. Why I can see the autoblog created in the main website when I login as subdomain account? I can also edit the autoblog feed using subdomain account. It seems any subdomain user can edit the autoblog? I think this is a security issue, please confirm if this is a real issue or I'm doing something wrong.
While login as subdomain account, I tried to process the feed created by the admin account. I was able to process the feed, again using the subdomain account. This is bad, the subdomain account should not be permitted to see, edit or fetch the autoblog feed created by the admin account.
You can test it. Create an account in http://www.king.net, check the autoblog and you will see the one created for http://www.king.net feed. And try to edit one feed or run fetch.
If the feed has lots of articles it would be nice to limit the number of articles published. I only want one thing from each feed to publish every 8 hours or so. This doesn't seem to be possible with autoblog, will it be in a later version?
I have some software (autoblogsamuari) on my computer and that uploads all the articles in the the feeds to WP but schedules them to post at a time decided by me in advance, perhaps that is another option.
Neither of these works quite as well as I would like which is why I tried your autoblog.
I'm unable to get any autoblog plugins to work on a fresh buddypress install - there are no errors, the feeds simply don't come into the site. Any ideas?
Hey!!
So this is working.
But I'm having the same problem that was supposed to be solved with the 3.2 beta version- the main link of the post doesn't link to the original source!

Barry,
Does this need 3.0+?
Member — 17th August 2010 #
Hugs! Thanks so much for this Barry. You have made my day. :)
Developer — 17th August 2010 #
@gregfielding I haven't tested in pre-3.0 but I don't think there is anything in there that would prevent it working.

I am assuming that start date can be any date.

@Barry
Thanks - that makes sense.

does it work with custom post types? Can I use it to post feeds to custom post types?
Developer — 20th August 2010 #

Does Autoblog support the ability to add custom fields?
Feedwordpress has this option for custom fields "Custom fields can be used to add extra metadata to a post that you can use in your theme."
I use it on my site, would like to switch to AutoBlog as it looks much easier to maintain!
Developer — 31st August 2010 #
@scaseye - at the moment no, I'll look at adding custom fields to the todo list, as it could be useful.

I tried to install this to my site. It is not in my Super Admin, though I see it below the setting. How to correct this issue?
What am I doing wrong, please advise.
Thank you,

The latest version moved it to it's own menu group at the bottom left of the main menus.

Hiya guys,
I'll make a note to change the way this looks and reads in the installation/description pages on the pages here as well.
Thanks!

When I use autoblog in sub-domain, in "add post to" I can see all sub-domain and similar selection in my main website. Is this correct?
When I try to "add post to" realestate.king.net, it takes forever to load and nothing happen. Please help.

Not sure what you mean here.

I have the main blog using the autoblog for example http://www.westsummit.com.
I created a subdomain blog using world.westsummit.com, and tried to use autoblog. I can see the feed that I created in the main blog (www.westsummit.com). And I can't create an autoblog feed within world.westsummit.com subdomain.
I hope this is clear. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible not to show the autoblog in subdomain control panel? Only in main admin account.
Thanks.

Update please. I'm concern with the subdomain account access, able to edit the autoblog created by the main admin.

If I don't get support to fix the reported issues. How to remove autoblog plugin?

Hey!!
So this is working.
But I'm having the same problem that was supposed to be solved with the 3.2 beta version- the main link of the post doesn't link to the original source!
How do I get this to work?!
Developer — 4th January 2011 #
You mean the title / permalink? It isn't supposed to without an extra plugin.
Member — 4th January 2011 #
What's the extra plugin?
Ya I mean the title of the post- would link to the original post right?
But it only links to my archives page.
