I am BORED with those pseudo working plugins and become crazy. Tested THE nice The Event Calendar, simple, very user freidnly (event options uder post window so events are just posts), with nice widgets, page calendar etc. But it DOES NOT work. Nore wp-calendar, nore event manager.
All those plugins are just user totaly unfriendly, complicated, or just does not work, or are not multisite compliant.

I think it's definitely one we could add to the collection - we've always kinda avoided it due to competing stuff / complexities etc. but maybe we could give it a go now :)
The best one I think is the concept of "The event calendar" : any post has a checkbox, "this post is an event" if checked all parameters are shown, and the event added in the list, the widget, the schedule that we can include in a page, etc.
Simple, efficient, complete, it uses the WP default function that make it VERY user friendly. That is essential for me.
All other are Gaz powerplants with hundreds of parameters, shortcodes and so on. This complexity is no more acceptable, and is certainly the reason why they dont work !
Events Calendar Pro would be a good startignng point. The biggest problem with that plugin, is that it can be tricky for some non-techie users to integrate into their site.
The backend is really good, uses the general WP admin look and doesn't use shortcodes, but user shave complained that to get it to work in their site takes a bit of editing at times.
A plugin like this would be great just as Aphrodite said, an option to make it an event, then all the other sections show, though it would be best to give the option for only admin to see that.
Also, if it is linked in with posts, it would be good if it could integrate nicely with Gravity Forms.
Personally though, I would create a Custom Post Type to use with it, then all the sections could just be there.
Using normal posts would have the advantage, also, of also working with other plugins that call that info, which would be particularly good for sites that already have a good system going.
1. Recurring Events
2. iCal integration
3. Making it easy to subscribe to Calendar from front-end
4. Plays nice with Formidable Pro
5. Supports map listing with custom pin (maybe in combo with through existing map plugin)
6. Google Calendar/Apps
7. Uses newsletter plugin to create "Evites"
8. RSS Event Syndication
9. Automatic creates event(s) list code for each event to post any other website.
10. All Events, Newest Events, Featured Events, Most Popular Events, Comments
11. Categories and Keywords
12. Front-end entry form shortcodes(or uses Formidable Pro)
13. Large and small calendar display.
In addition to the above, the possibility of using paypal (and others) to sell tickets, maybe even have a setup where users can set up an event and sell tickets, and a percentage, set by admin, goes to the site.
I'm chiming in as well, desperately in need of a good event registration and management plugin that let's our buddypress users create and manage their events.
But only for buddypress, and well... things are missing. (event description editor is simple text, flyer image is a link so no possibility of "lightbox" it, for example....
I was also requesting something similar with integration of Marketpress so that others can sell event tickets as well as products. I'm pretty much using Marketpress for that now, so further extensions of this would make it a fantastic all round plugin.
I would love this plug in I did a lot of testing and had a site for an Amateur Radio Group that used Web Calendar (stand alone php Calendar)
Mostly all of the features were already mentioned.
Here's another one
A widget to show upcoming events on the same Blog or another blog.
Reason for that is in case your Site is only a Event Site you can show your upcoming events on yours or another site (say a customers Site)
and that brings me to this: option to have it separated by State / Country or custom.
(lets say I want to search for events in my state or Group / Club and I would sign up for that event and an e-mail would be sent to me by the plug in on a configurable amount of time.
WoW I'm getting myself worked up can't wait :>
+1 for me. Im currently using Events Manager and its tricky. The main thing bothering me at the moment is creating Featured Events. I think I will have to make a category especially for that and then use a conditional statement to display that category but as the categories are seperate from post categories Im not sure how its done.
Id love a fully featured WPMU Dev plugin for this though.
+1 for me too! Recurring events is a must. Ticket sales/class registrations via paypal, eventbrite or other and the option to integrate with pro sites would be great too! Omg... This can't come soon enough!
@James- I see that it was 3 weeks ago when you mentioned there would be something coming very shortly, so just wondered if you had an ETA on this? I am in the process of deciding on a solution for my network, and trying to decide if I should purchase ECPro (which just got a big overhaul) or wait for this one to be released. Thanks! :)
I've been using a plugin called Event Manager, which is 97% awesome (Found a bug that makes me want something else). Plus it's a little more complicated than what I need, so I came over to WPMUDEV to see what my event plugin options are.
The BuddyPress Group Calendar looks like it could work....but, what I'm really looking for is more like an Everybody Calendar. I want certain types of registered users to be able to add an event from their BP front-end page.
And I want the basic details of each to show up when you click on an Events tab in the nav menu. Click on the Event Name and go to that event's page, complete with full description and an integrated google map.
Yes! An integrated google map right there without the user having to leave my site to see a map.
This part is really really REALLY important to me.
I'd love it if you could add a map simply by typing in the address all in a single field, just like on maps.google.com. That's one of the problems with Event Manager: It wants each segment of the address separately, which can make for some awkward formatting on the front end.
And what about an "I'm attending" button, like on facebook?
I wouldn't mind seeing another option, although The Events Calendar works nicely. It's kind of pain when you do a custom loop thought because the "Events" does something strange with the other categories. If you run a query_posts you can't grab Events and another category.
It would also be really nice if you could do a subcategory Events. If you are using it as a multiple-artist "Tour" plugin for instance. Color-coding the calendar and making it useable once it gets heavily populated is important.
Sweet! Any idea when a beta will be available for us to play with? Is there a list of already included features? I don't mean to be a pain, it's just that I have a discount for Event Calendar Pro that expires at the end of the month and I would need to go ahead and purchase that one if the WPMUdev calendar doesn't suit my needs. Would it be possible to know a little more about the features you guys are going to offer in yours so I can see if it will jive with how I plan to run my network?
Thanks James! Any hints as to the core features and how they align with my particular needs would be greatly appreciated! :D
-I need individual site owners to have their own independent calendars. It would be a bonus if they had the option to make their event global thus appearing on either the main site (community calendar) or somehow aggregated onto another site with a main calendar for the entire network.
-I am looking for events as custom post types with the option to integrate them into the main loop of the users site or display them as just a list of events.
-Recurring events
-Google maps integration
-Month view, list view and single event view utilizing "featured images"
-Upcoming events widget with the option of a list view and a grid view that utilizes "featured images"
-Full RSS feed
-Ability to sell class registrations via paypal
-Ability to sell tickets to events either through paypal or Eventbrite
-For community sites, the ability for users (or members) to submit events through the front end (somehow integrated with Membership) I plan to offer the Membership plugin to my users so they may set up a membership based site
-Integration with Facebook Events would be super groovy!
-ProSite integration so that the more advanced calendar options only become available to certain levels
Thanks Jennifer, I'm very hopeful we're gonna hit the majority of those.
The ones I don't think we'll get to out of the box will be pro sites integration, FB events or the community event submission stuff - although I think all of them could definitely come off in the next release.
Eventbrite integration could be tricky too... esp as we're kinda trying to replace that with this :)
But not out of the question at all!
The majority of the other stuff is either there or almost there, and of course it's custom post types... hope to have more info soon.
WOW This sound great +1 on GlamGeek's Suggestions
To add to the above some more Suggestions for features would be
- View calendars by day, week, month or year
- Configurable custom event fields
- Checks for scheduling conflicts ( checks if you overlap another event you are scheduled for) ( and if you are option to ignore conflict or adjust your times)
- Email reminders for upcoming events (I think this was already mentioned, just making sure it is)
- Email notifications for new/updated/deleted events
- Export events to iCalendar, vCalendar
+1 for this as well - we'd like to be able to use this for convention registration, so the ability to register for an event, pay for it and perhaps also add some items from the store at the same time would be especially nice!
I'm in process of setting up a site to do class registration. Would LOVE LOVE LOVE to know when this is coming and if it will integrate with Marketpress. If soon and yes, i'll hold. If soon and no, or not soon, I'll use event manager... Please advise!
Yeh Id like this yesterday to be honest. Started with events manager on a site then left it for a bit and now events manager has been updated so bit of a pain with the changes I made to old version. Im sure WPMU version will be better anyway......
Yes, it's a template so you can customize it to match any theme. Yes you can set it up to purchase ticket(s) if ya like. No, you don't have to use the calendar.. we just thought it was cool :)
ETA??? Well, you could almost start holding your breath. Almost.
