Hello,
One of the best blog in my platform : http://blog.enseignons.be/heembeek/
got a "The blog you have requested is not installed properly. Please contact the system administrator."
I can see the blog in my admin, but i can't change anything to that situation. Furthermore, I can't find the tables in the 256 databases ...
Any chance for me to solve this annoying problem ?
1. How can I find the database associated with a blog ? (it might be a table that is corrupted ? )
2. What are your advices ?
Thanks a lot !!

1) FInd the blog id number for the blog inquesion and md5 it. The first two digits match up with the database that the databases should reside in.
2) Go check that database to see if the tables are in there.

Make sure you have a solid backup routine in place.
Thanks,
Andrew

Thanks for the md5 trick :-)

Not a problem. You may want to keep a md5 lookup site bookmarked as it gets used on occasion.

I have this bookmarked:

What do you do when the blog isn't installed properly? How do you manually install?
Erstwhile founder (joined May 2007) Likes (0)
I'd just remove the blog details from the db that did get setup and then recreate the blog after the problem that caused the installation to fail is fixed.
Thanks,
Andrew

What would you say the problem was? We haven't changed anything at all within the last 24 hours. It was working fine. We tried to add two blogs today and it's just not working!

Hiya,
A few questions.
1) Are you using Multi-DB?
2) Are the blog tables being created in the db?
3) Anything in your MySQL error log?
Thanks,
Andrew

We are using Multi Db. Blog tables aren't being created. Where is the mysql error log?
Erstwhile founder (joined May 2007) Likes (0)
It can vary. Best to ask your host.
Thanks,
Andrew

We are running on a VPS with webmin control panel. Can't find any mysql error logs. As we installed mysql with the defaults what you would guess?

Try /var/log. If it's not there google is always your best friend :)
Thanks,
Andrew

You are the man! That's where it was! This is what we got! Linked from Pastebin.

Well, it looks like you have a problem with your wp_161_options table but that's not relevant to the issue at hand. Nothing in the log points out the problem.
Does the MySQL user you have configured in your db-config.php have the CREATE privilege?
Thanks,
Andrew
Member (joined July 2009) Likes (0)
The mysql user has the priveleges to do everything. Globally on the whole server. I just double checked that.
Thanks

Alright then, can you please post your db-config.php with the passwords masked. If you're running 256 or 4096 databases I just need a selection of the db connection lines.
Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew!
I should add that this worked perfectly on Monday and there were no changes made since then that should have done anything. It's been a month now since we added multi-db and everything has been working perfectly till now.
Here is another error log: http://pastebin.com/f59492f21
Something funny seems to be going on that error log.
db-config.php: http://pastebin.com/f908bddf

Hmm, I'm not spotting any problems with your config.
What happens during the signup process? Do you get any errors?
Thanks,
Andrew

Also please take a look also at the databases via phpmyadmin and make sure no tables are listed as locked or corrupt.

Something is definitely up with a couple of tables.
Thanks,
Andrew

Hi. The databases that should have the tables are empty.
Thanks
Erstwhile founder (joined May 2007) Likes (0)
So basically the tables aren't being created. Are you 100% sure that the MySQL user can create tables? Mind running a test query?
Thanks,
Andrew

Example of test query you want run?
I'm happy to test it.

I've confirmed that the permissions are fine. Here's the odd situation: From the front-end (buddypress) user registers with a blog all is well. From the backend, admin can't make a blog. I'm looking to see if the user can make multiple blogs.

Just used user-switching to switch to the user with the problem and I was able to create their blog perfectly fine from there. It's like the siteadmin from backend can't create any blogs but everyone else can. Any ideas?
Erstwhile founder (joined May 2007) Likes (0)
So just to confirm, the frontend form works just fine but the backend form doesn't? Is that correct?
Btw, since it was working fine before and just to rule out the possibility, have you removed all plugins (aside from BP) to make sure it isn't a plugin causing the problem?
Thanks,
Andrew

That's correct. Front end works fine. Backend is broken.
We've removed most plugins and tried.

@hpcareernet
Did you get this resolved? I have the same problem on my site.

@georgef - is that something that's just happened for you?
Member (joined August 2009) Likes (0)
Not quite sure exactly when it happened. I noticed it a week or so ago but had my mind elsewhere so didn't take much notice as I knew things were working from the buddypress member area.
I need the subdomain that I just created to work so now trying to fix it.
Aaron was helping me in this thread, but came across this one here through Google which is exactly what's happening on my blog.
I've had memory issues with hosting, can that contribute to this?

I too am having the same challenge on a brand new install of wordpress mu 2.9.1.1 with buddypress 1.2 and magazine theme for 1.2.
Any ideas or suggestions for me to look at?
Member (joined December 2009) Likes (0)
I have the same issue, was working fine on friday and now I get the error when creating new blogs.
Not using the multi DB.
No tables being created for new blogs.
Any thoughts?
Member (joined December 2009) Likes (0)
Well,
I upgraded to buddypress 1.2.1 and it now works...strange
Erstwhile founder (joined May 2007) Likes (0)
BuddyPress 1.2 had several bugs.
Thanks,
Andrew

I am having exactly the same problem!!!
WordPressmu with buddypress, latest version of everything, it was working fine, I have about eight or nine blogs created.
suddenly as of yesterday I can no longer create blogs from the backend.
I can however create new blogs when a new person registers!
Member (joined April 2010) Likes (0)
That's 3 people having the same problem!
Keeper of the Dark Chocolate (joined July 2007) Likes (0)
Please get out of that habit. They have numbers for a reason. Latest wpmu version released is the merged 3.0 beta. Is that what you're running?
Member (joined April 2010) Likes (0)
Sorry!
WPMU 2.9.2
Buddypress 1.2.3

Did you check your error log and mysql error log?
Lead Developer (joined May 2009) Likes (0)
Remember that when you create a blog from the backend you have to click the activation link in the email if you don't use an existing user's email.
Member (joined April 2010) Likes (0)
No it's when I try to create a blog for an existing user too.
I cannot create new blogs at all form the back end.
Front end works fine.
when I try to create it from the backend, it says Blog Added!
I get the e-mail telling me I can login to the administrator account.
but when I go to the blog I get this message:
The blog you have requested is not installed properly. Please contact the system administrator.

SOunds like an sql problem. Check you logs.
Member (joined April 2010) Likes (0)
where would I find them?
Lead Developer (joined May 2009) Likes (0)
depends on your host. Look in your admin or ask.
Member (joined April 2010) Likes (0)
You legend Aaron!!!
I had to go into my C-panel to find the SQL logs.
the first entry was this:
[08-Apr-2010 13:43:44] WordPress database error Multiple primary key defined for query ALTER TABLE wp_sitewide_featured_posts ADD PRIMARY KEY (
featured_post_id) made by require_once, require, do_action, call_user_func_array, bp_sitewide_featured_posts_check_installed, bp_sitewide_featured_posts_install, dbDeltaI disabled the wp_sitewide_featured_posts plug-in and it's all working again!!!!
Thanks.
