Greetings Stef,
Thank you for this great question.
Without having much more to go on as to your configuration and installation setup, I would try New Blog Defaults plugin to set the theme to what you choose.
Please let us know how it goes if you try it out.

I am using that plugin - it has an option to make the blog template the default. I want to use it for business blogs I create - but not for the user blogs people can create for free.
How do I change it so it's not the default template. At this stage I only have one template and I don't want everyone to have access to it.

Greetings Stef,
Thank you for the feedback and additional information.
If I understand you right you have only one template on your entire installation:
And there indeed must be a default template on the WordPress installation.
Therefore if you have only one template, in order to make it not the default template you must have a different template that is the default template or more accurately default theme.
As long as you have only one choice, it must be the default.
Please advise.

No I had the option to select it as the default - if no default is set then it would be as if there was no template at all - and therefore wouldn't require the user to select anything at all.
When I added a blog I had the option to choose no blog at all or the template.
Of course I am talking about the New Blog Defaults plugin not the default Wordpress template.

Greetings Stef,
Thank you for the clarification and my apology for the total misconception I had to what you are indeed referring too.
Now the question of course is as it began, how to un-default the new blogs template in which I do not have an immediate answer never having had this problem before.
I did check my installation of New Blogs template plugin and do not see an option to change this. However, I did not set the template to be default.
I cannot find reference to this setting in my database neither - d-a-r-n.
Therefore I will see if I can get the lead developer in here with his invaluable insight for advice/advisement to us how we can possibly reverse this default setting.
Though this may take a bit more time then a regular ticket, I will try to get him in here asap.
Cheers, Joe

Hello,
If you wish to use a different template as default, you can just ignore the first template at the moment and create the second one normally. Then, once that's done, you'll have an option to switch default templates, like so: http://i50.tinypic.com/sm6aom.png
If you wish not to use a default template at all, just remove the default template altogether and re-create it. The new template won't be the default anymore, although it can have all the same settings as the old one.
