Hi,
Need some help. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting this and narrowed it down to the theme.
My install of the Blogs Mu theme isn't compatible anymore with IE8 and below. IE6 causes a browser crash. In IE 7 and IE8 I got it to load once with an error about "Line 4 c.body" and stated that it had reloaded the tab.
After that, every time the page loads it fails and displays
"res://ieframe.dll/acr_error.htm#mywebsite.com,http://mywebsite.com/"
All plugins are off. I switched to Twenty-Eleven and it loaded just fine. I can log into the dashboard as that is not theme dependent. It's not just my computer either. Ran it through a browser compatibility site with same results.

I can't test this issue at the moment as my windows machines are in storage until my office is built. :-(
I would like to comment on the use of old browsers though. The problem with supporting old defunct browsers is that is stops the evolution of the internet, it prevents progression of new technologies. And for that reason, I'm with Google on this:
We support the current and previous major releases of Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari on a rolling basis. Each time a new version is released, we begin supporting that version and stop supporting the third-oldest version.
So with relation to IE that would be 8 and 9. IE6 is over 10 years old.
Anyway, I'll ping a few others on this and ask them to have a look. Please could you provide a link to your site so they can test also.
Hi Tim,
Maybe you could ask Richie to jump in here. I'm sure he's got a machine with it loaded up already.
Honestly, I don't care if it works in IE6 but IE7 and definitely IE8 need to work. I didn't catch onto it sooner as I'm always on FF or Chrome and saw it when I pulled out my old notebook with XP. I was going to start marketing the website today but that's now on hold. My target audience is typically older and not very tech savvy. They are also prone to using whatever computer they have until it dies suddenly and it has to be replaced. If they can't see the site, then a potential customer is lost.
I'm rolling back one update on it tonight to see if it will clear the error.
Thanks!!
Troy

I had already pinged him on this one to come along and take a long. I also asked a couple of others whom maybe able to test.

Out of all the Microslow systems, my preference was always on XP. Not sure why, but I enjoyed that system. :-)
We do have a windows 7 machine packed away as well. It does look a huge improvement but I haven't played with it much.

Ohh I know that feeling all to well... :-(
I do still have some old 386 and 486 in our loft.... and a ton of disks for Windows 3.1 and OS Warp....
Anyway, I'm babbling on. ha ha.
Let us know how you go with the role back. As I mentioned I have sent a message to Rich. :-)
I can confirm the problem with the child theme. I was using the parent theme and switched to the child theme yesterday, everything seemed to be fine except some strangeness with the widgets, then checked it out using IE8 and discovered the same problem with pages failing to load described by troykd. Probably not related but the strangeness with the widgets is that the active ones all shifted location in the switch from parent to child. So for example, widgets in footer 2 moved to footer 3, those in footer 3 moved to footer 4, etc. (I noticed this using chrome, whereas the other problem was just in my use of IE8).
I'm still having the same issue since the upgrade, a bit worse actually -- when using IE8 with the child theme the website doesn't load at all. With the earlier version of the theme, the main page would load but any navigation efforts from there would fail. Again, only a problem in IE8 for me, I've tested the theme in the latest versions of Safari, Chrome, and Firefox, I have not tested earlier versions of IE.
Problem has been resolved for me in parent and child theme, maybe my cache wasn't really cleared until today on the IE8 machine I was using. I'm having other issues which I'm working on in another thread, but this one seems cleared up for me. Thank you :)
Cache is sometimes a pain. I've debugged an issue before and spent a little while doing it only to find it was a cache issue which I'd overlooked.... Even though I thought hadn't.. :-)

Rolled back the update and it's loading fine.
I had another issue with this update that Richie was able to send me code to fix. Don't know if it's related.

Hey Troy.
Just to keep you updated on this, Its currently the Chinese new year so Rich is away for a couple of days.
Didn't want you thinking we'd forgot about you. :-)
Can we just confirm what Richie asked:
If you could revert back to the parent theme, just to test it and report back. :-)

I meant to emphasize more that the page loading problem wasn't occurring for me using IE8 with the parent theme, only the child theme.

When you use the main Parent theme does it then work as expected?
If so then I wonder if some updates are also needed to your child theme?
Take care.

xblade, try http://browsershots.org/ for browser compatibility tests. Works great.
I'll upgrade today see what happens.

It's working for me in IE8 and the full width problem is gone. I replaced the child directory too. None of the old files are in there now.
Thanks
