1. Login as user 1.
2. Search for a user.
3. Click on the user to see the profile.
4. The friends and groups count in the top menu bar is of the profile being viewed currently and not of logged-in user.

Secondly, nice find! I'm surprised this hasn't been caught before. I've verified it on my own install and made a report to the design team. This theme is due for an update anyway so I'm not sure if it has to do with that or is something separate that they'll want to look at.
