I see the "BuddyPress Activity Plus plugin"
Compatible with
WordPress 3.4.1
Multisite 3.4.1
BuddyPress 1.6
So even though it says BuddyPress Activity i am good to go without BuddyPress installed?
Also it says it will work with any BuddyPress theme!; if it does not need BuddyPress installed, will it work with non BuddyPress themes? Say twenty-eleven?

I would imagine so though like anything else it is certain that it does not work with every theme. What results have you come up with and what is the name of your theme? Twenty Eleven?
If memory servers me well i think you were going to use Twenty Eleven for many things :-)
Yes i am trying to run the gammet with the twenty-eleven theme. :)
I was checking before i installed the plugin, i am not familiar with BuddyPress as of yet, and did not want to get into another mess at the moment. lol
I will set up a sandbox to play around with BuddyPress Activity and twenty-eleven.

You may want to just use something like Snapshot for backing up your databases making a backup just prior to adding new plugins and everything. Then if something goes wrong then all you need to do is roll it back to your last save.
The rest are all files which can be easily deleted or replaced if need :-)
I am actually going to back up all my domains on both servers, via the cPanel this weekend. :D
I am going to do another test site. I have three, soon to be four sandboxes for this project.
I am using multiple suggestions. Each persons ideas gets a sandbox and then i pick and grab from them to another test site. Otherwise i just keep reactivating the same plugin and themes over and over. lol
@Timothy threw me a curve ball with Taxonomy vs. Multisite. I am still looking up tutorials about WP taxonomy, I don not recall drupal Taxonomy, terms, and vocabulary being confusing. Ok i got another book going here. lol

I found the use of taxonomy confusing at first. lol
Remember CustomPress can help with creating custom ones.
