Buddypress Corporate Theme localization
I've been translating BuddyPress Corporate Theme to spanish, by means of a .PO file which I've generated from the theme files with PoEdit (Windows).
After creating the es_ES.mo file, I've uploaded to the BuddyPress Corporate Theme (in /wp-content/themes/BuddyPress Corporate, but it doesn't work: many character strings are in english, as you can see in http://irati.pnte.cfnavarra.es/redpnte/. Then, I've renamed the file to buddypress-es_ES.mo, but to no avail.
I've tried other locations for the .mo file, but the problem remains.
My installation: WPMU 2.8.4 and BuddyPress 1.0.3. The translations of WPMU and BuddyPress have been provided by BuddyPress-es.com, in http://www.buddypress-es.com/noticias/descargas/

I have to be completely honest with you - generating and editing .PO files gives me an immediate headache and makes me want to cry a bit!
It looks to me at http://irati.pnte.cfnavarra.es/redpnte/ that it's the widget areas that are not translating ok - however, these are translatable strings:
<?php _e( 'Footer Left Widget', 'buddypress' ) ?>
So I'm not sure why that's not happening :/
Can you look inyour PO file and make sure that the 'Footer Left Widget' string is include there.
Any assistance from translation experts very welcome here too :)
This is line 32 of footer.php file in BuddyPress Corporate Theme:
<h2 class="widgettitle"><?php _e( 'Footer Center Widget', 'buddypress' ) ?> </h2>
So, when the .PO file is generated, Footer Center Widget is one of the text strings which should be translated. In fact, it is not.
I've included my .PO file, so that you can check it (look at the lines 148-149).
As I can't upload .PO files, I've renamed the file to .TXT. Here it is.

translate your themes, plugins and wordpress/wpmu from your wpmu backend :-)

that is the reason I insisted on your edu-clean theme to be fuly internationalized.
now that it is, I can use that plugin to translate it into any language easily from my back end, even send you the translation files if I finish it...
If all your plugins were/are internationalized, users can also send you in their plugin translations...
I'm afraid that BuddyPress Corporate Theme is not fully internationalized. That's the reason why I suspect that my translation doesn't work properly.
But I'm not completely sure... Anyway, I agree to Ovidiu. If themes and plugins were fully internationalized, I would be able to share my translations with WPMU community. In fact, I've translated many themes and plugins for WP and WPMU which I can't share because this limitation.
I've tried to modify some themes in order to make them internationalizable, but my PHP skills are not enough to face this challenge. That's a pity.
Please can you try this:
Edit the .po or .mo file for the additional translation (since default bp languange/es.ep languange does not have the footer widget gettext)
Copy / paste the languange to theme folder, open up poedit and rescan the source to add in the additional text to translate and move the langunage(.po and mo) back to bp-languange in the plugins/buddypress.
Can you let us know how you go with that?

As I am very busy now, I can't finish the translation, but the beggining is very promising.
One more question: do you consider that this theme (or the way this theme is coded) is a standard? I mean, should every theme for BuddyPress be coded as Corporate Theme, with the 'buddypress' domain, and the translation of the theme in the same file of application translation?
I'm not sure if to have an application and a theme which use the same .PO/.MO file for translations is the best solution (or the most clear solution) to the problems of translating. On the other hand, I've noticed that other BuddyPress themes use 'buddypress', but I'm not sure if this is an universal way of making themes for BP.

Well, theres' a problem. After recreating the .PO file with the text strings from the BuddyPress Corporate which are not in BuddyPress, PoEdit eliminate many text string, which are "obsolete", as it says.
Is there a way to recreate the .PO file without losing the original text strings? While waiting for a solution, I've come back to the original translation of BuddyPress.

I have to be honest with you, I have never really got my head around editing PO files, you'll need to get help from someone better at it than me... Ovidiu?
seriously, get the abovementioned plugin.
it scans all wordpress locales, themes and plugins, even mu-plugins and allows to add languages, translate strings, all from within the back end of wp/wpmu :-)
its more or less self explaining give it a try :-)

I want to localize buddypress corporate for Germany and just wondered if you have the localized version and the po file somewhere available....I guess that would help many people who are trying the accomplish the same.

OK, I think maybe we have to consider providing po files for all our themes... it might take some time though!
