Hi,
After I removed all plugins except BP 1.5.1 the BuddyPress Mobile plugin still did not work. By this mean that the website did not use the Mobile theme, it retained the Scholar theme look.
Then I enabled the BP default theme to find that the BP Mobile plugin does work. I did not try any other wpmudev BP themes.

I just gave that plugin a good run-through with a few different themes, including BP Scholar, and I was unable to replicate the issue, it utilized the mobile theme on my Droid Eris.
I don't have an iOS device myself, but couldn't really see how that would work any differently given the circumstances. Have you tried to deactivate other plugins to see if there might be a conflict with Scholar and that plugin active?
Maybe I'm not being clear. When the BP Mobile plugin is working a mobile freindly theme is presented, not Scholar or Corporate or the default BP theme. The default BP theme works this way but I'm not seeing two the WPMUDEV BP themes allowing the mobile friendly theme to be displayed by the BP Mobile plugin.
The screen shot is what I see using the iphone tester and the BP Default theme.
I have tested the page on my Android tablet yesterday, but what I got was a BuddyPress default theme, just like with the other theme we tested. I'm attaching a screenshot - please note that the colors on screenshot are bizarre for some reason, but that has to do with my screenshot taking app. The colors looked normally on the site.
Thanks Ve, that's pretty much how it worked on my Droid Eris too. I just have to add, it's really great they made the default theme responsive (at least I believe it is, haven't tested with images yet)!
@Larry, I believe that's the issue actually, that you're testing through a website. I really doubt the mobile theme plugin's going to detect a mobile browser properly through that site. And in fact, the screenshot you've posted is the default BP theme, not that mobile plugin. The BP Default theme is responsive, or at least fluid width, so it adjust to fit your browser window.
Using my Droid Eris, the plugin menu displayed instead though, so it did work through, which seems to clearly indicate that it does detect properly for mobile devices.
Responsive themes are just incredible, as they adjust to fit all browsers. The great thing about it is that all your BuddyPress functionality, all the plugins, are taken care of with that. You don't have to worry about a mobile plugin not being compatible with particular BuddyPress plugins in that case.
Instead you just setup your site as you normally would and it just works through all browers/devices. 'Responsive' is a pretty big keyword right now because of that.
Often times, plugins will be designed around the theme and won't specify absolute dimensions, like 400px, etc. If they do utilize absolute dimensions, I believe it might affect the display a bit in a responsive theme but in general they should be just fine, especially so with BuddyPress plugins.
If you notice any issues to that effect though, please just let us know and we'll see how we can sort it.

Hi,
When I removed all but the BP 1.5.1 plugin the Mobile plugin worked with the default BP theme, but not with the Scholar Parent theme.
Then with all my usual plugins enabled, I activated the BP default theme and sure enuff the mobile theme works.
I don't have such a device either, I used iphonetester.com to perform the test.

Hi,
I tried with the BP-Corpoate parent theme and it failed the test too.

I'd just like to mention too, you actually wouldn't need a mobile theme plugin like that if you're using a theme with a responsive design, much like the BP Default theme. There's one such theme mentioned in the wpmu.org article as follows:

Hi,
I agree that the image I posted is the BP default theme. I removed the Mobile plugin and it looks the same.
I will check into responsive BP themes.

Hi,
If I use one of these responsive themes, will I be able to use wpmuorg plugins? Do plugins have to be coded such that they are responsive?
