What would you say is the best way to build a forum just like this one? bbpress? I am running Multisite with Buddypress. I like the group forums feature but I want a forum that is outside of the groups, but still linked to Buddypress. Currently I'm experimenting with Simplepress but want to explore other options.

SimplePress is cool but there are some things I don't like when using in multsite including how it displays paths and how it expects users to set it up. But still an amazing plugin!
bbPress are getting close to a new release which will be an actual plugin for WordPress, at that point I believe they will be removing it from BuddyPress as it will be packaged separately.
Just in case you haven't see the threads about this:
I agree with Tim. We use bbPress here - though it's been crazy modified/adapted/enhanced and reworked with an incredible theme :)
The future looks good for bbPress though and hopefully the plugin will be available for release in a couple months. That'll be the easiest route. I've used SimplePress a few times as well though and while it's a heavy plugin, it definitely can get the job done for ya.
Best of luck. Let us know if you have any issues setting it up!

I want to deploy forums myself but I elected to wait for the forthcoming bbPress. :-)
