Update: Check out our new Events & Bookings Plugin, which does pretty much what you guys were after :)
There are 2 plugins that I would really love to see you guys make, and they are kinda related.
A Booking plugin where visitors can schedule appointments or make reservations. WooThemes ventured into this a bit with their WooTables, but it leaves a lot to be desired.
and
A Schedule plugin where you can add new events through a custom post type, and add a date to it from which a calendar is generated showing the different events.

You know, we've talked about doing our own versions of these kinds of plugins a few times. It never seem to make it to the top of the list though. Would be curious to see if a lot of people are interested in this?
Current solutions include Event Espresso and Events Manager, but nothing with powerful multi-site and buddypress integration that I'm aware of.
I for one would be interested in it. I once had a site with a php Calendar script but it had too many bugs and problems that I dropped the idea of the site. And would love to revisit it with word press.People are always looking for an event calendar for their club or community.
I would love to see a calendar that has group functions and multigroup display on the same calendar.
My specific need is to have a calendar where anyone in any group can post to a calendar. All of those events would show up on a master calendar. Then be able to filter them by various criteria to drill down. By group for example. I want to have several members that will be posting events for their site. I would like all of the events to show up in a master calendar on its own page. Not just as a widget.
I looked at the BP calendar but I am not sure yet if it will do exactly what I would like.
That's a good idea! I have been looking to build a site for a friend that makes cupcakes and other goodies as a side job for small events like baby showers and such. This would be good to let potential clients know what when she will be available.
I have also been throwing around the idea of building sites for doctors and lawyers in my area because many of them don't seem to have sites or have very simple static ones. It would be nice if the plugin could allow people to see what times are available on the website then either make the appointment online or call if they wish.
I would love to have the ability to combine the calendars of multiple sub sites on one calendar. I have a client with several locations and each one has it's own sub site so each needs it's own calendar, but as a whole there also needs to be 1 unified calendar.
I really like the sound of marketpress integration, but I see some instances where you would not want to charge for booking so I would really like to see a way to do free booking as well.
Awesome news about this. I just wonder if there is anything a little more specific...even a tiny bit more? A lot of people are planning sites and it would e great if developers could take a couple things into account:
1. WPMU DEV Members would often prefer to use a Plugin from here than elsewhere, but without any idea of potential ETA, we are in the dark when making choices.
2. Feature Requests for such an important new Plugin would be a great idea.
Basically I mean that some dialogue between Members and Developers on this one would be really appreciated.
Love the work that you guys do, and would say this is the only frustration really.

We hear you - and there's always going to be a tension there. We do our best to provide as much information as we can, but it's always smarter to plan your development around what's available right now than speculate on something that is scheduled for completion.

Yep. And we do this as well. Check out the 7 Betas that our new "Pro Blogs" plugin has gone through or the dialogue around the Membership 2.1 Beta. Development is decided based on user feedback. We've done the same with the wiki plugin and will be doing it with the new Ad Server plugin as well.
You can expect the same to happen with the Events and Bookings plugin. None of our products here would be what they are without the valuable feedback from the community here :)
I understand absolutely that this is a hard one to balance, and certainly have noted the great dialogue around Pro Blogs. I look forward to it with this Plugin.
Thanks again for all of the great WPMU DEV services!
I would love a count time clock on things like this however when it comes to development, especially in open source you will find companies and developers reluctant to tie themselves down to time frames because if they miss those deadlines which is inevitable over time it generates a huge demand on support requests from expectant parties whom are disappointed.
So to avoid that disappointment, the answer will always be either "no", "soon" or something along those lines.
+1 - would really like it if the admin could add events and they would appear on a calendar on a page and possibly a widget with just a small calendar showing the event dates in highlights and clicking on them take the visitor to the main calendar.
+1 I would like this too. An actual calendar page and a widget that links to it!

This is something I definitely need. Would like it to work with the Membership plugin and/or use the authorize.net payment gateway. One of my clients lets prospects download fliers in pdf format, could this be a function of the plugin?
I've got a post I've written on wpmu.org that goes live tomorrow (Dec 21). In it, I plan to review 2011 and give a rare look at what we're working on for the future... eagle-eyed members can spot a screenshot of what we're working on :)
The more popular a request is and the more votes it gets, the more likely it will be considered.
It might have already been suggested. It is worth a quick search to add your votes before submitting a new suggestion.
I think in this case, to be fair, people are just wondering when the plugin will be available, given the number of times we've been told it is imminent.

Some integration with MarketPress would be awesome to sell tickets and events or allow your clients to through their sub sites. :-)

Definitely worth considering as part of our (still in development) event plugin, Moha is leading that up so including him here.

Hi. How is that event calendar plugin coming along, and what are two chances of a reservations and bookings system for Multisite?
+1 from me on this. Is there any progress?
Sales & Support Lead — 18th September 2011 #
Well, it's still in development :) Hasn't been cut or anything. And yes, we're planning for bookings to be part of the event plugin on multisite.
