Hey again! I was wondering you might be able to point me in the right direction :)
I wanted to create 15 or so avatars to go with my site but I only see the monster generated ids and other default avatars - Is there a plugin for buddypress or a way i can incorporate my own generated buddypress avatars into the site?
I've been looking around forums but can't find a solution yet - this might be something you guys have seen before that i've missed :)

Each user uploads their own user avatar when they set up their account and can change it at any time using the admin bar via My Account > Change Avatar.
Good point and hadn't consider that. I'm so used to the default avatars that it's a bit like you don't even think about the fact you could set up perhaps your own default ones.
you know what, I encouraged my member to use Gravatar it's easier and sitewide
and I chose to display generated monsters because no body like to be a freaky monster and they immediately change their avatar, LoL
I Like the point of assigning certain avatars for users tell they upload one, I will use it if it's available
@Sabuntu I agree with you about Gravatars. We encourage students to use it in our Student blogging challenges ( http://studentchallenge.edublogs.org/ ) because they are leaving comments on a wide range of blogging platforms so it carries across their avatar.
Hi! So many replies :D
@jfelton This is what I mean :) I would like to have my own set of avatars instead of the monster generated avatars so when they first signup they have random dragon avatars, but then they can upload their own. How would i do this without adding any more plugins?
Also on my site I was wondering how can I make it so that when people post in forums it shows up the <strong > < / strong> bolded text? As one of my guys is doing regular posts on new bonuses and we need some words bolded but it comes up as normal text.
If you have a look it comes up as normal text but I would like to have certain words bolded. Is there a way I can get the text fields to include bolding without the use of external plugins? As i do not want too many plugins :)
Also I had put in a banned email list into buddypress but I saw even though I had put this in it still let users register from that list is there something i am missing? do i need a wildcard in front of domains?
@Sarah
Wow. This is exactly what I was trying to figure out. Great timing!
Do you know if it is possible to manually change the default avatar on a per user bassis? Basically, I need to change the avatars for about 12 users that are elected officers to indicate thier rank. They are total noobs and I would be extremely suprised if they could upload one themselves.
I was thinking of some sort of "if user=blabla use this avatar" could be added to the functions.php file, but I can't seem to figure it out. Guess that makes me a noob too ;-)

BuddyPress already has a built-in avatar system, so you don't need any plugins for it. :)

Agreed and if you use a third party plugin made for wp, it'll screw things up.

I think he's talking about making his own avatars that will be default side-wide until users upload their own...
but I don't know the answer :-)

Just wrote a tutorial on how to make custom default avatars for BuddyPress members and groups:
http://wpmu.org/how-to-add-a-custom-default-avatar-for-buddypress-members-and-groups/
Pretty simple copy and paste into your functions file.

@dubya - any luck changing the avatars for other users (or any xprofile data for that matter?)
Thanks
