I am trying to customize this theme so that the large-sized avatar on the member pages is only seen when looking at the member profile. I have spent all afternoon trying to figure out where the member-header.php is called by the Buddypress Social Theme. Could someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction?

Apologies in advance, as I'm a very unhappy, frustrated customer after weeks of trying to implement the "simple, all in one place" theme solutions that WPMUDEV purports to sell. We started with the basics, tried and gave up on the BlogsMU theme, and are near the end of our rope on Social.
Is there any documentation specific to the Social theme?
I'm by no means a programmer, and should not need to be one. These are blogs, after all. I feel generally comfortable with HTML and CSS, but not so much with PHP. I've been designing and publishing blogs in TypePad since 2003, But I find the shifting interfaces whenever you change themes in WordPress challenging, to say the least. Having no documentation on how to adjust things in the specific theme you've chosen just adds to the frustration.
At the moment, we're trying to figure out how to widen the right sidebar throughout the site, so it can accommodate standard advertising, including 300x250 Medium Rectangle, without breaking the design in unexpected places. Changing the width in sidebar.php works fine on the main pages where there are basically two columns, but forces the right sidebar to the bottom of the page in places like member profiles and blog post pages where there are three columns.
Now, I expect there's a simple solution to this specific problem. But frankly, I'd rather not have to come back here over and over and ask for a "simple solution" to each of the next 12 problems.
So back to the initial question, is there any documentation specific to the Social theme?

Hiya,
the member-header.php file is called from home.php in the root directory and also:
bp-social/members/single/plugins.php
If you need anything further, just let us know!
Thanks!
