Hi Guys,
A new version of the dashboard widgets order plugin is available.
Note that the widget order is only changed for users who don't already have a widget order configured. If you want to force the change on all users comment out line 52.

I tried to use this together with custom content plugin but failed to set the order for new blogs.
It seems that on line 52 it always returns an order "even for the newly created blogs".
and somehow I cannot find any reference to "_metaboxorder_dashboard" anywhere in the code other tha this plugin.
Are you having trouble with the dashboard widgets order plugin when used with the custom content dashboard widget plugin only? I ask because the latest version of the dashboard widgets order plugin has been downloaded (2.0) has been downloaded 67 times and no one else has mentioned a problem.
I just uploaded a new version of the dashboard widgets order plugin. This new version should ensure that the widget order is updated once per user no matter what.
Please note that the dashboard widget order is stored for each user and not each blog.
