Hi,
I am using the Global Site Search plugin to search products on my site; http://fondelifair.com
Now it works great if you are logged in, but if you are logged out every comment on the site appears under the product list, how can I fix this?
Also the search is very random, for example if I search hat, I could get anything from earrings to socks! :)
Thanks,
Alice.

Hello Alice!
Just want to check and see if you have the Post Indexer installed as well? As this pluigin does require our Post Indexer to work.
And to clarify, are you wanting to hide comments for non-logged in users? or is there an error here?
Maybe a screenshot would help.. :) just want to make sure I get what you are wanting!
Best,
Kimberly

Hi Kimberly,
Yes I have the post indexer installed. The problem is that the search page works fine if you are logged in, but if you are logged out, every comment on the site appears under the products, please see the screenshots, first one for logged in users, second for logged out users.

Alice,
So sorry that I'm long on a reply for this! The Easter holiday here got a little crazy with the kids and my feed reader did not get as much attention as I would have liked!
Part of the issue with the search is that it will return items based on post titles and content not tags or categories, and post indexer won't index anything that was published before it's install. That combination will limit your "hat" search I'm afraid, if the plugins were not installed before the post creation :)
Are you using the search widget? I don't have a multisite to test on at the moment unfortuantely, but I understand there are settings that go along with the widget? What do you have set for these?
Best,
Kimberly

Hi Kimberly,
I understand, life can be hectic, and I have only one 2 year old! :)
I have the post indexer installed since the very beginning, so that is not a problem. I am not actually using a widget as I have added the product search to the Buddypress Search bar. It works great if I am logged in, but logged out, I get a list of every comment on the main site. This really is the big issue for me right now.
Thanks.

The only reference to comments in the ,php file is on line 79...
Which theme are you using?
Doing a bit of digging, I'm still learning to decipher all of my Firebug tools that don't deal with css :)
Found this and makes me think that this along with the fact that it shows when not logged in is that the issue can be solved in your theme.
"<div id="content"> <div id="post-1262" class="post-1262 page type-page status-publish hentry"> <h1 class="post-title">Product Search</h1> <div class="post-content">
Perhaps I'm showing my lack of strenth with code here, but I need to learn more. Let's check out your theme and see if we can fix it there!

Hi Kimberly,
I am using the Gridmarket Theme.
Do you have any idea how to solve it? I have no clue!
Thanks.

Alice I'm installing on a test network and testing.
Have you tried to change the settings here in the Network Admin area? What do you have set to "list post type"?
Marketpress products are custom post types

Hi Alice and Kimberly
This one had me intrigued and so I did some investigation. Think I've worked out the issue (lets all cross our fingers).
This was a really complex one because I expected with BuddyPress, MarketPress and the GridMarket theme you would be using the Product search that comes with GridMarket. Normally your search results would look like this if using GridMarket ( http://wp-ecommerce.org/?s=boots ) and it didn't look like the standard look of Global Site Search on a Multisite.
Once I've confirmed that the search field in at the top of your GridMarket has been hacked to work with our Global Search then it was possible to duplicate the problem on Global site search on one of my WordPress mutlisite installs.
Here's what I believe is your solution:
1. Go to Pages > Site Search
2. Click on Quick Edit
3. Deselect Allow Comments and update page
If Allow comments is enabled on the Site Search page with the Global Site Search you don't see comments on the page when you are viewing as a logged in user but will see comments from across the network as a logged out users.
Can you let us know if that fixes the problem?
Thanks!

Hi Ladies,
Thanks so much for looking at this issue for me.
@KimberlyL I have selected the post type products in the network admin
@SueWalters Unfortunately comments and ping backs are already deselected. On the site search page there are no comments, it is only when you do a search that you actually see all the comments appearing.
Thanks!

Hi Alice
I was really hoping this was the issue because it does exactly what you are saying with my Global Site Search on my multisite. When you search you only see the comments if you are viewing the page as a logged out user; and not as a logged in user.
But yes I would expect to see the comment field on the Site Search page before you do the search if comments were enabled.
However, your Site Search doesn't display like site search would normally display on GridMarket when using Global Site Search. So the next step would probably look at the theme and/or plugin edits.
Thanks!

Greetings,
Alice is no longer with us at this time therefore I am closing this ticket in lieu of that fact.
