Hi -
We did the standard XML export from a category of posts on one blog, so we could import at a new blog on a multi-site.
Our problem is that everthing imports fine except for two things: the images do not load into the media gallery, and there are no featured images set (important because the theme uses those). The images are viewable in the posts, but a check of the URLs shows they point back to the old site, and a simple update of URLs will not fix the featured images problem.
Anyone run into this and found a fix? Your help appreciated.

Yes. We did tick that off, and that is probably why the image does appear in the post, but the URL is wrong, no images appear in the media library, and the image does NOT get set as a featured image.
Thanks for your brainstorming -- much appreciated.
* Saw no errors on import
* We set the original site with the category to import to multisite, so the original site is now on the multisite network too. Then we wanted to export a category from the original site and import it to the new subdomain site on the same network. I wonder if it is an issue with the same category from one multisite to the next on the same network?
* Have not tried testing on a single install. Will try it now and report -- thanks.

Maybe because it's late in the day but I'm struggling to get my head around that! Could you explain in a little more detail please and I'll see if that might explain anything.
Just checked your idea about importing the same XML export to a different test site. I did that and the same problem exists -- images are not imported (linked to -- see below), and so no Featured Image is set.
Here's the code after the import for an image in the post:
Note that the img source in this code points to the old blog -- the export location. That's not what we want, but this occurs at both the test site I tried just now, and also at the desired location on the new multi-site blog.
Thanks again for brainstorming -- hope this helps clarify.
How bit is the import file? Would you be open to sending it to us? If so, can you send a message, marked for my attention and referencing this thread using the contact form please?
Then we can receive the import file and I'll test it myself too.

Hiya,
Did you tick the "Import attachments" box when you imported the posts?

Hmm that's strange - that suggests that WP didn't think there were any images to import....
Did you see any errors on import?
I take it you are importing a single WP into a sub-site of a network, yes?
Have you tried testing out the import on another single install?
