1) One thing that always bugged me about similar plugins is that the icons are not always centered. With some of them having different widths, it looks out of whack. I see that here too...perhaps a little CSS tweaking?
2) Until I saw this, I had been very interested in the social slider seen here:
It's very slick and elegant, IMHO. It's not a separate plugin, but part of a theme framework (GPL). Maybe it can provide some inspiration for possible future enhancements.
Man, I was so excited to see this released as a plugin ... until I saw that there's no LinkedIn integration. Ouch!
LinkedIn plays a huge part in our network, probably more than Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ combined. I would love to see LinkedIn integrated or get instructions on how to do it myself.
Need to drop a thanks for acting on my request so quickly (although I'm quite sure I wasn't the only one who requested for this plugin). Great job! Going to start testing it right away. :)
How about an option to choose if left offset is from left or right of page. In the case you have menu sidebars on the left. (gridmarket)
A box for customisable CSS.
And, like the ajax sliding login panel, an option for it to be hidden off from view, until the user clicks the 'link to this' button. The button could be movable too. Just an idea.
I only have this installed on my solo test site (http://tradr.co) at the moment. Is this plugin network activate-able? And will the backend settings be network wide?
I noticed this plugin pushes people out of the Wordpress + Buddypress world.
How about a choice to forward this link to your Buddypress friend? with a custom logo for that button.
This could be promoted by wpmudev as the ultimate social sharing plugin for Wordpress + Buddypress, and keep all user activity in house to the wpmu+bp network.
@Johnny the additional customisable option should be in place in a near future version. From other threads, this is a highly requested feature and I believe they must be looking into implementing it. :)
In the latest release (v1.1, just released) we added some of the features mentioned in this thread (LinkedIn support, custom services, right positioning and custom CSS). One of the more interesting (and complex) parts is probably the custom service field, so I'd like to give an example of how it works.
Under "Add new Custom Service" section, you can give your service a name, and enter in some code. The name is not really important, this is what you will see in the plugin settings (also, the HTML ID attribute for the service will be based on that), so it's probably best to be something mnemonic. The "Code" field is the important one - this is where the code for your service should go. For an example, you could enter something like this in the "Code" field to create an "Email this" sort of sharing widget:
Hi Ve, thanks for the great example on how to use the custom code. :)
Actually, I was about to suggest adding in the "Email this" feature because I think it is generic and useful enough to warrant adding it. If it is possible to add it as a possible default, I will love it!
+1 on the email. A Pew research report that just came out today said that 61% of US adults still use email, even more than social media. I think we sometimes forget that social media isn't as pervasive as we think [or hope] it is. Email is still how most of the world communicates.
Yup you are right wpcdn. But what we are requesting is to make it added by default, so that the rest of the users henceforth don't have to ask for it again.
The design is entirely up to WPMU DEV, but I checked out mashable and thought something similar will suffice. :)
I've been playing with this for a little while. Is it just me or this plugin only works with posts and not pages? The best implementation of this feature that I've seen allows you to separately check whether you want it to show up on pages (with option to opt out of certain ones), posts, and index pages.
Tried it on a single stand alone install of WP. Only showed up on pages that have an Iframe. No show on the others. Theme was Genesis/AgentPress. Thanks
@Johnny, @trykd, each theme styles things a bit differently, so you may need to do some tweaking in plugin settings to get everything to work properly with your theme. The "safe" settings should be "Page top" for vertical placement and "Page left" for horizontal, but maybe you'll also want to tweak offset values and z-index settings.
Worst case scenario, you can take a look at the selectors your theme uses (e.g. main div ID attribute), select "Selector" setting for horizontal/vertical placement and paste in your selector (in CSS syntax - e.g. <div id="myid">... in your HTML should be listed as #myid in the "Selector" field) in the text boxes that appear.

Love the idea of this, but it seems I'm the first person to post asking for support. http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/floating-social-loading-problems#post-126006

Looks good from the description will try it ASAP.

Hiya
I cant seem to get 1.1 working on BP 1.5
The backend settings work fine.
But no floating social panel is displaying.
Will be testing further to figure out what it is.

If I'm reading right (above), e-mail is now supported as a custom service with the code listed above (and your own icon), right?

I click on 'View Demo' at the plugin download page and get sent to this:

I don't think that was the intent.

Is it too much to ask for the ability to specify which pages the sharebox shouldn't show up?
Member — 4th September 2011 11:21 #
simple and awesome.
if possible add more social sharing services, that be more great.
keep it up.
