Hi
I am running Multisite and have the friends, messaging and avatar plugin installed. However i am having a problem when i send a request to become a users friends it says it is pending approval but the other user is not getting the request. It seems to just get lost somewhere.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue please.
Thanks
Jamie

Greetings Jamie,
Jumping right into this I have just completed a test on our brand new testing environment of this plugin and after going through the process of installing messaging, avatars, and friends I cannot replicate the issue.
The request email came right through immediately:
Dear billing,
We would like to inform you that aecnu has requested to add you as a friend. Please login to your admin panel to approve or reject this request.
Thanks,

Are you sure that you have checked your spam box?
All three plugins are network activated?
You are not using Buddy Press?
You added the user to your network, activated the user account, before submitting the friends request?
Please advise.
Thank you for being a WPMU Dev Member!

Hi Joe
Thanks for the reply.
I am not using buddypress just multisite.
I had the email saying someone wanted to connect but no link in the email it said to log in to dashboard to accept. i did this and there was no request there so i can not accept it.
All three plugins are network activated, and the user is added to our network, and activated the user account, before submitting the friends request.
Thanks
Jamie

Greetings Jamie,
Thank you for confirming that you received the same email we did regarding the friend request.
I agree that it is sparse (but certainly can be changed but at this moment hard coded) and that it does not contain a link to the site it was sent from (a great feature request)
As you can see in my above post the email was sent to the user "billing" and when I log in as "billing" into the site I go to Friends --> Friend Requests and the screen shot below is what I can see and the ability to approve or reject the request.
Can you please confirm that this is NOT happening in your network?
Cheers, Joe

Joe and Jamie, Wanted to jump in and see if I can help with getting to the root of this issue.
First I guess I'm a little confused on the issue. Is the issue that the email notification is not being received or that the notification within wp-admin is not being seen by the friended user?

Jamie, more help. If you are simply not seeing the notifications in wp-admin (After re-reading Joe's posts in this thread).
Do you have access to your database? The Friends plugin keeps track of requests via a small table wp_friends or whatever your database prefix is. Is there a chance you can compare the before and after contents of the friends table? OR can you dump the table before adding a request then after and send it to me. The tables only contains user IDs and an approval status. So no security issues.
Let me know.
Thanks.

Sorry try again. here it is

Thanks Jamie, Is the file you uploaded the before or after?
Here is specifically what I need to test. You log into wp-admin as userA. UserA goes to Friends > Find Friends and adds userB. When this request is made a record will be written to the database linking the userA to userB and a status.
So this is the reason I was asking for a before and after dump. That way I can compare the table records to see if the new record is being written as expected. If the record is not being written then this will help identify the issue. If the issue is being written then I need to look into other areas of the plugin.
Also, if possible I need to know the user ID of userA and userB. Since the database for Friends really only contains user IDs.

Hi Paul
Sorry about this i dont know why but after doing the dump of the database i can now see the request. looks like this has been sorted. just tried another one with a different user and that has worked aswell.
Thanks for your time.

Jamie, Well glad this works now. But does not help us to understand what was happening. Keep and eye on things and do let us know if things stop working again.

And what's about the great idea to add a link into the email request? That would make things much easier for our end users! The email should have a link pointing to the wp-admin friends page (or maybe even a direct link to validate the request) and another link pointing to the user profile (the user asking for friendship). Sorry for my limited English.

I agree it would. I really would also want to add a panel where the admin can customize the emails. The issue does need some love and will be received soon.

Greetings,
Well folks it does not get much better then when we have the lead developer of the plugin in here which PaulM is that indeed.
With that said it is certain that the attention to the issues in this ticket will be addressed in probably the next upcoming update if at all possible.
Cheers, Joe

Joe, Well question for you regarding this thread. The original poster's issue had been resolved. The comment from Lorange was added just at the finish of the issue. So should this thread remain open and the feature request moved to somewhere else. OR should we just leave this open? Not sure how this is normally handled.

Also, Lorange, are you still monitoring this thread? Reply back if you are. I have some thoughts on how this will be implemented and want to start a discussion on this feature.

Yes, I am following this thread with much interest! :-)

Lorange, Well you might be interested in the new version of Friends I just pushed to productions last evening. This version includes Email templates you can customize. Since this is a Multisite only plugin the Email templates are managed under the Network Admin area.
These email template user replaceable tokens like [SITE_URL], [SITE_NAME] and yes there is a token to link back to the user's friend request page. I didn't provide an automatic link to approve or reject for now.
So anyway check it out and let me know.

Hello Paul
This sounds great. I'm currently on the road, driving through Brazil. But I can't wait to check this! Maybe someone else could test this and give his feedback a little bit sooner?
