I would like to set up a website that promotes charities, and has links so that money / funds can go directly to a charity's particular account (for security and trust reasons). However, I would also like to retain a commission (fee, or whatever you want to call it), say 5-10%.
Is this doable with this plugin now, or is the plugin customizable, or could this be a requested feature?
Also, can anyone think of this not being legal, say, in the USA, including California.
Also, any other feedback about this would be good. Does anyone know of any organization or website that does this now?
Feedback appreciated. Thanks.
PJ

Hello PJ,
This is interesting.
The fundraising plugin have Paypal as its gateway and I am not sure if any payment gateway can actually split the amount before it reaches any one of the accounts. It isn't doable at the moment, but I could happily move this in as a feature request.
I am not familiar with the laws, but am good with accounting and splitting money when you receive it will make things complicated. I think the best approach would be to receive all the money in the charity's account and then take out a part of it as a salary or a developer fees, which is totally okay and should be okay in every land.
Don't you think that is a better and safer solution here?

Thanks for response.
I am sure there are laws, varying by local, regulating this.
Money going directly to charity, with charity then compensating marketer, seems optimal, if not necessary, from a financial security and fraud prevention viewpoint, not to mention a public trust and marketing perspective.

Hey PJ,
That's the ideal way to do it I think. I think, most people have the wrong notion that all charity work has to be free. But when someone is investing time into it, it totally makes sense to take a remuneration.
And to be really honest, many charities make butt loads of money ;)

Is there any reason we cannot use Adaptive Payments with Fundraiser?

Chained Payments are the major Marketpress selling point. Surely you guys have the know-how to integrate it into Fundraiser.

I will send this in as a feature request :)

Thanks, Hopefully we can figure this out without having to add it to the "feature request" That list must be getting really long.

Chained payments is the API to handle that type of payment for sure. It's not compatible with Pre-Approvals unfortunately (which is what advanced payments is using now) but I am trying to find a place for it in a future release.

Cole, thanks for the reply. One of the earlier requests was to allow multiple awards using the simple type, pay-as-received, models, How is that one coming? Since it is not Pre Approved, would the chained API work?

Simple payments alongside Chained Payments would be the way to go. The issue is less with the gateway itself but with making sure we are making the options as intuitive as possible. Based on the current release it would seem easy to include, but I'm having to take into consideration the additional features I am working on as well.

Cole,
I have uploaded and installed the latest funding plug-in 2.1.1 and selected the “Rewards” with no “Goals” so that we are using the simple payment method, thanks for the upgrade. When we ran a test case everything worked as expected except the “raised” amount did not change.
As a question could “Adaptive Payments -> Chained Payment" be a selection in the “Available Payment Gateways”.
Thanks

Make sure for simple payments you are setting up your instant payment notification url using the url in your Fundraising -> Settings -> Payments tab.
I'm looking into chained payments in the future one thing to note is that PreApproval payments are not compatible with Chained payments which is a bummer.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
