Today we're pleased to announce the release of Gallery our new theme.
Gallery is designed to showcase images... they could be photographs, paintings, products, services, even portfolio items - as the name suggests a gallery but a gallery can be of anything.
Put it simply Gallery shows off your content. Gallery comes in 2 variations:
Basic: You can set a page template and use the built in WordPress gallery along with a customised lightbox script.
Advanced: You create images using the custom post types method and galleries using custom post categories. Then a whole world of options is opened to you from slideshows, grids through to lightbox popup layers. This goes beyond most of our themes bringing custom post types right to the theme built in.
Gallery has a core concept of letting you decide what content you want. There is a section under theme options where you can create a whole host of home page configurations:
* Custom header: on / off
* Site navigation: show / hide
* Slideshow: on / off
* Slideshow width: full / partial
* Gallery list or menu if partial slideshow: list / menu
* Gallery category navigation: on / off
* Gallery category navigation position: before / after slideshow
* Picture grid: on / off
* Social buttons: on / off
* Content: on / off
* Gallery navigation menu in footer: on / off
* Widget footer: on / off
With custom post types built in you have a whole new world of advanced options open to you for an image to feature in a gallery:
* Simple SEO
* Logos: Add a small logo or large image logo
* Google fonts
* Full width, blog /news, gallery and attachment templates
* Multiple widget sidebars
* Google analytics in footer
* 11 styles
* Build your own style
* Custom header
* Custom background
* WordPress menus
* Child and parent theme
Oh and yes.. BuddyPress out of the box with some custom styling for BuddyPress.

Oh and yes.. BuddyPress out of the box with some custom styling for BuddyPress.
It can't link to pages as it's using the custom post type - you'd need to add another slider in to get that effect which is quite a theme modification so unless you are comfortable with CSS / Js / PHP I'd not recommend it.
Hey..
I'd like to have my buddypress menu and my wordpress pages menu all on in one line.
Howevery with gallery, it's broken up into two parts.
How can i fix this?
1. Add all buddypress pages under the custom menu
2. Remove the buddypress menu - this would involve code editing of library/components/buddypress/buddypress-navigation.php maybe even the call to it in header.php your choice.
If you want to go the drop down route you have 2 options:
1. Create a new menu item and link in each element hard coded for BuddyPress
2. Look into custom coding the navigation menu but that's going to be a harder thing to do.
Alternatively, you could not use custom menus and add to the BuddyPress menu - it's thinking around the other way with things but hopefully I'm clear about that option.
I have another question.
How do I create a custom registration menu in this theme.
I'm also using s2member.
So I'm confused as to how to send users not logged in to the registration menu and users that are logged straight to their profile.
g
I can't really advise on s2member but it does use the normal built in WordPress menus.
As for a custom registration menu perhaps you can do through those - is there no documentation from s2member?
Just to let you know there is a major update for this theme now lined up come WordPress 3.1. We've done a lot of work on this and looking forward to releasing.
also-
one last question.
gallery theme automatically makes my home page(http://domain.com) with the gallery page template.
What if I just want a normal wp page.
how do i change that.
g
It doesn't use the gallery template automatically for the front it uses home.php to show a home page. You can delete that and use index.php which is just the blog posts though. You will maybe also want to check out theme options under the theme admin panel.
Hey.
I checked out the theme options.
I think that might have worked out if the content allowed line breaks.
Somehow when I put my descriptions and sub header content, it comes out as one big block!
If you can give me some guidance on that.
My client is looking for a splash page kinda like this - perfectmatch.com .
G
If you'd like to see the site then I can send you a login and username to your email.
It's currently not viewable by the public.
g
Sorry I'm confused you want a splash page but you are using Gallery which is a Gallery theme .. I am puzzled sorry. Gallery won't make pages like that it's not a splash or holding page theme.
First of all we really need to get posts for each issue not adding them to the release post which this is.
Secondly, do you want a LOGIN or a REGISTRATION box ... they are different. Register/ has the registration form. You have to turn on registration if using BuddyPress or on your site if using WordPress.

Any one know the answer to this?!

To achieve this you'd have to do 2 things:
1. Add all buddypress pages under the custom menu
2. Remove the buddypress menu - this would involve code editing of library/components/buddypress/buddypress-navigation.php maybe even the call to it in header.php your choice.

Hey
Tammie!
Under Appearance, I went to Menu, but there is no way for me to add the specific buddypress menus.
Do you have any other way?
I have wordpress 3.0 installed.
Thanks!
Also- is there a way to create a drop down of all the buddypress pages so that forums can be UNDER groups?

Ok.
number one.
I still can't find the buddypress pages to add in under appearance>menu .
Number two.
I can remove the Gallery Theme buddypress menu, but I still need to find the buddypress pages to add to the custom W 3.0 menu.
Thanks!

As stated before the file to look in is:
library/components/buddypress/buddypress-navigation.phpI am not suggesting in 2 and the other point you use custom menus.

What I mean is, My client wants an opening page like perfectmatch.com with the registration form on the front page.
How do get the registration form for Buddypress on the homepage ?
Can you go to perfectmatch.com and see what I'm talking about?
Theme Designer — 28th January 2011 10:38 #
I can see and it would be a custom code calling the login form for BuddyPress: buddypress-panel.php:
library/components/buddypress/buddypress-panel.php.
Unless you are confortable coding I would not recommend it.
You would do the following rough steps:
1. Create your own page template:
http://buddydress.com/2010/05/front-page-settings-and-page-templates-tutorial/
http://buddydress.com/2010/05/creating-and-setting-a-page-template-tutorial/
2. Add own custom code.

Hey.
Ok. I will try that out.
So does that mean my register page is not at /register/ ?
Currently when i type in my domain name : http://www.talentedtenthnetwork.com/register/
it redirects to the http://www.talentedtenthnetwork.com/register/wp-login.php page if I am not logged in and to my profile page if I am logged in.
I can't even see how the register page looks .
This is the case.
Why is it doing this?
g
Member — 28th January 2011 18:29 #
I found this code in the wp-login.php file.
<?php if (get_option('users_can_register')) : ?>
"><?php _e('Log in') ?> |
"><?php _e('Register') ?>
<?php else : ?>
"><?php _e('Log in') ?>
<?php endif; ?>
</p>
Do you think this is causing a problem?

Member — 28th January 2011 19:34 #
Hey.
Well there was a plugin interfering with me even GETTING to the register page.
So I found it and now I can at least get to the register page :)
Member — 28th January 2011 19:35 #

Sorry I'm terrible at this.
but thanks for your help.
