I was tinkering with both Google Custom Search and a third-party plugin (Relevanssi). However, I was unable to get both to work on the same site. The problem seems to be that Google Custom Search hijacks all the search queries - even if they originate from a standard, wordpress search box.
Is there some way around this? I realise that it might be weird to want to do both but Google Custom Search cannot index pages that it's not allowed access to, whereas I can give admin access to the other search plugins that are installed on my server to index everything.

Ya as you noticed the way the plugin works is by taking over the WP search to provide Google results.
Unfortunately if you want the default search as well then it would be a custom development and not something we can currently provide.
I can see how handy this would be though and pop this over to our feature request area.
So if this was implemented then how do you envisage it would work?
Perhaps:
+ Google shows all indexed content?
+ WP Search somehow restricts to admin selected Post Types?
Or something else?
Thanks.

Thanks, Timothy, for your reply.
At this point, I think that I would offer the Custom Google Search to unregistered users - or at least to lower-tiered members in a membership program. Then, swap this for the WP Search, when a user is logged in as a member of the site, so that they can search and retrieve protected content.
I would also very much like to see a plugin that can search Buddypress Activity & Group Forum posts, plus bbPress Forum posts. This is something that is missing from your Global Site Search plugin. I don't know the technical hurdles to overcome but, given that all of this info is stored in the wordpress database, it shouldn't be too difficult to code, no?

I'll ping our developer and see what his plans are for this one and if this is something he plans to accomodate.
I think this would be especially handy when using our Membership plugin (or any membership type plugin) because of course your going to want your users to be able to search the site.
We will see what he says.
Take care.
