hi,
I have a problem to set membership levels on my site. I set a free member and called it "guest". In the access levels I added negative rule to 5 pages. Then I activated this level and In options I set "guest" for the the "stranger settings". Now i log off, go to my site as "guest"/"stranger". All pages marked in negative rule are visible. Can you explain what do I do wrong? Thanks a lot.

Ah, since i have a similar problem and no one has answered this yet i'll add mine here and we'll see if it's related.
So, I'm also trying to set up membership. I have set a similar access level called Free Users, and set the "stranger" setting to use it. It has 2 pages added to positive rules and 1 category added to negative rule.
My "positive" pages get's blocked. And your "negative" pages are visible. Strange! So either something is borked with the pages rules-set or I'm to tired for this right now. ;)
Meh, I'm sitting with this now and trying to decide if I should stick with Membership. I want to, but right now it seems very random.
The page rules above worked for a while, then i added rules for 2 menu items and the pages borked. Removed menu rules, but pages are still borked. Can't make it work again. Help?
*edit* This is frickin' wierd. Now (9 minutes later) it's working again. So, how can i decide to use this plugin on a site i hope and think will get really successful? Can i trust it not to randomly bork again? Was it just tiredness that made me miss a setting? What to do?
We've been listening to members feedback on our membership plugin and have come up with a conclusion - the plugin works very well once it's setup, but it is too darn difficult to get up and running quickly/correctly!
In January we went back to the drawing board and started over in terms of user interface and a new setup wizard to walk you through the setup process. The developer's been working tirelessly on this over the past several weeks and it's in an internal beta now. We hope to get it out for members here very very soon.
So that's what's going on with the plugin. Now, to your questions, the plugin WILL work as expected, but in order to troubleshoot it with you I'm gonna need screenshots of your rules setup and options pages.
You do need to go through everything on the options page and make sure you've selected answers to everything (setup subscription and account pages, etc). Please let us know if you need further assistance with this.
@valerian, Please try finishing the membership plugin configuration. By that I mean, add a real page for the registration, account, and protected content pages.
Essentially, because you haven't yet selected a protected content page, membership doesn't know what it should serve up instead of the content.
This is why we've spent a lot of time reworking this plugin so that you will have an easy wizard to walk you through these areas on setup.
thats ok that you are spending time to rework the plugin. i think it will be awesome. in the meantime i bought a junk?
I worked in your suggestions. Now the site is blocked and even though I added positive rules to the pages, they are not visible to the member who has access to them. The only difference is that if you click on a page to which you should have access you do not get the message that you do not have the right to access the page. But the page content is hidden. I can access the content only when logged in as admin. any ideas?
Not at all. The membership plugin DOES work correctly when setup correctly. However, based on member feedback we are rewriting the plugin to be more helpful in achieving proper setup.
I see you've sent an email through to us. If possible, I'd like to get a set of login credentials so I can check your setup directly.

Hiya guys,

@Mason RE: This -
"new setup wizard to walk you through the setup process"
I've been mucking through my very first Membership install with mixed results, so I can safely say that this is great news.
I look forward to trying it out.
Chris
PS: If you need a beta tester, I'll happily volunteer.
