how about a featured posts plugin? where one can select (manually and/or automatically i.e. by taxonomy/author) posts to be selected as featured and then shown, i.e. via php call or widget?
andrea and ron had one but its kinda getting old, looks weird and doesn't play nicely with current wp versions, plus its not integrated with your avatar solution...

showing posts from the whole network on the main blog. hence featured, sorry for lack of explanation.
one could pick them from the post indexer => global posts feed plugin output?
hwo about adding "editor's choice or pick" to the voting plugin?
that way, I can manually add some interesting posts from the network I'd like to feature and if I disable voting totally I can misuse the voting plugin as a featured plugin?
I like @Ovidiu suggestion with the Voting Plugin but I'd still like to see featured posts. I use a category called "featured" when I want to do this now... which is not really the same and not scalable.
A featured post widget that can pull posts from where ever you want would be nice. I tested the super widgets plugin which is a little limited plus the posts just didn't look right. You have to pull the post from a particular blog do it almost serves as a featured blog widget. For me it would be nice if I could setup a featured category and select which blogs can actually post to the featured category on the main blog. The idea of attaching it to the post voting would be cool too. I would also like to be able to have it some that the categories on my main blog get content from the other blogs on my network but I wouldn't want everybody to be able to post. There would have to be some sort of criteria that could be set so new bloggers don't sign up just to post spam type crap all over the front page. Maybe a setting so that if they are a certain level in the Membership plugin they can have their posts get front page access.

Hiya,
Where do you envisage showing the posts? Would using the sticky feature not provide a sufficient solution?

something like this but working and integrated with your wpmudev plugins: http://wpmututorials.com/plugins/featured-posts-plugin-and-widget/
this looks good: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/super-widgets/ but you can only select posts from blogs you "own" or maybe are a member of :-(

That looks good, and thanks for the clarification.
Wonder if anyone else likes this?

I've got a better idea:

+1 if it can be used as a widget in the sidebar and supports scrolling to see other featured posts.

Yeah, I am looking to do the same thing with market press, and featuring products. the curator plugin looks pretty cool... anyone try it?
