I want a member directory that is visable to the public with only certain profile fields shown to the public. To have it be searchable is even better. Any idea how to do this? Can this be done with a wpmu dev plugin? Thanks!

That appears to be simply a custom-made BuddyPress theme styling the default BuddyPress members page.
