I love how Pinterest did their site!
I was trying to figure out what WPMU (and other) plugins I could use to get the functionality of multiple comments on pictures with the same type tagging system?
What plugins would enable a Pinterest Style Image/Video Commenting Site?
Hi karmikovic thanks for being a member and for using the forum.
I have to admit I havent used pinterest. But it is getting a lot of press at the moment.
As Im sure you are aware WP already allows a comment stream on the media attachment page. So it would really be a matter of looping through attachments (would need to limit this as it could take an age if there is loads of media on the site), pulling htem and there comments and dumping them on a custom homepage.
Well its an interesting idea and one I wouldnt mind developing, unfortunately it would take a bit of developing and I simply dont have the time to really get into the nuts and bolts of it. But I hope Ive pointed you in the right direction.

I haven't built a Pinterest site before myself, but I would be happy to do a bit of research for you and also see what plugins might work in getting the same effect.

Also this code gets all post attachments excluding the featured image from a custom post type called "data-design"
and this is from wordpress codex to display all attachments:
