I've just installed a fresh copy of mu on a sub-domain for testing purposes and run the installation, but as soon as I enter the password to login, it just returns me to the login page.

Hiya John,
Does your admin username have a role on the individual sub-sites?
Also, how do you have the admin access defined? Go to Super Admin>Options and scroll to the bottom. Look for something called 'Administrative Mapping'? How is this set up?
Try toggling it to another option and seeing if you can then access the sites admin.

Hiya John,
Ah, but things are looking up now! :D
The IP address for our domain mapping plugin has to be set in the Super Admin>Options page. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the area for domain mapping.
Once you've got that information entered you can easily map any subdomain by going to Tools>Domain Mapping in that site's backend.

Hiya John,
As I mentioned on email, you were using a different domain mapping plugin that was rather out of date. Upgrading to ours here you'll have to re-enter the information as it doesn't transfer.
That's crappy that you can't get wildcard subdomains with dreamhost. Are you on a shared hosting package? Server software like WordPress Multisite should really not be in this environment (though I've done it myself with no issues using HostGator - with wildcard subdomains and no issues with domain mapping).
Getting the wildcard subdomains is your next step here. Let us know and we'll help as we're able!

A link would be helpful so we can see how you;ve set it up. If the mu installed in the root of the account or is it in a subaccount?

I kept doing tests, but I think it was just the PC needing a reboot. It had been about a week....

Hi,
I have a similar problem.
This blog is a child of a WPMU install using the domain mapping plugin.
http://surfboardsale.com.au/wp-admin/
I cant login with both my WPMU admin login or the site specific login (even after resetting the password).
I can login to my main WPMU wp admin but cant deactivate plugins network wide or for this specific blog.
any ideas?

Hi
I cant find a Super Admin > Options > admin mapping
Only allow administrative menus. (which is ticked)
Admin does have that role for the site specified.
Can I give you login details Mason as I am happy for you to check it out. It is kind of urgent now.

Hiya John,
If you'll send a super admin login id and password through our contact form (along with a link to this thread and link to your site) I'll take a look.
If you're not seeing the Administrative Mapping options then I'm thinking the plugin is not installed correctly though.
Thanks!

Hi,
I have updated all my wpmu plugins and changed the ms-sites code in the htaccess as instructed.
Still no good.
Is this a problem with the latest version of wordpress? I will keep trying to find a solution.
Cheers,
John

It looks like Dreamhost does not like wild card subdomain entries. I will need to virtual private server this for my subdomain blogs to work.

Also, when I add domain mappings to the tools > domain mapping no previous entries appear. There is no list of mapped domains? is this normal ?

I have Dreamhost VPS now with * subdomains. fault still happened
Reinstalled Donnacha domain mapping MU plugin.
It still had values pointing to the old server. Changed them.
Now I can log in again into my mapping sub domains.
Success!
It looks like the Donncha plugin, even if uninstalled, will conflict with WPMUDEV domain mapping plugin...
